A method for first arrival picking of seismic data includes receiving a seismic shot record data set from a seismic event, extracting texture features from the seismic shot record data set, calculating an energy ratio matrix from the seismic shot record data set, using fuzzy c-means to cluster the texture features into a strong linear cluster, a moderate linear cluster, and a random noise cluster, calculating a first arrival class matrix from the moderate linear cluster, multiplying the first arrival class matrix by the energy ratio matrix to obtain a first arrival pick matrix, and identifying first arrival picks from the first arrival pick matrix.

Aspects of the disclosure provide a method for processing three-dimensional (3D) hexagonally sampled seismic data. The method can include receiving 3D hexagonally sampled seismic data represented using 3D spiral architecture (SA), the 3D hexagonally sampled seismic data including a plurality of data traces each corresponding to center of a hexagon in the 3D SA, representing the 3D hexagonally sampled seismic data as two-dimensional (2D) seismic data using spiral architecture (SA) addressing scheme, and processing the 2D seismic data with an SA based signal processing process.

Aspects of the disclosure provide a system for seismic sample data acquisition and processing. The system includes an acquisition system configured to acquire seismic sample data using compressive sensing. The acquisition system includes a plurality of receivers each configured to randomly sample a seismic signal to generate seismic sample data, and a data collection system configured to control sampling operations of the plurality of receivers, and receive and store the generated seismic sample data.

The method of first arrival picking of seismic refraction data is embodied in software that uses the &#x3c4;-p transform on energy-ratio seismic records. First, the seismic shots are gathered. Next, the energy ratio (ER) is computed, and then the &#x3c4;-p transform of the energy ratio is computed. Using a binary mask, a corresponding first arrival energy is selected. The transform is combined with the binary mask and presented as input to an inverse &#x3c4;-p transform. The inverse transform data is then thresholded, and indices of ER first arrivals are detected based on the thresholds. The software then creates a vector of indices or time samples of picks. This method can be used to better guide the subsequent careful picking of first arrivals. Moreover, the method automatically interpolates missing picks.

Contamination monitoring of high voltage insulators provides a system and method producing an early predictor for high voltage insulator failure, allowing repairmen to either already be on site when a high voltage insulator fails in order to expedite repair time, or allowing repair and/or replacement of a faulty insulator before the failure actually occurs. The system and method provide transmission of an alarm signal when contaminant levels (such as equivalent salt deposit density (ESDD) levels) formed on a high voltage insulator exceed pre-selected threshold values, indicating the likelihood of high voltage insulator failure.
