The apparatus and method for quickly measuring the hemoglobin content of a sample of blood uses a light reflectance measurement of the hemoglobin sample lysed in a membrane. The reflection is inversely proportional to hemoglobin concentration. A blood sample is loaded on to a nylon mesh and dispersed within a nylon membrane, both of which have been treated with a hemolyzing agent and surfactant, and air-dried. As soon as the blood sample contacts the reagent on the membrane, the red blood cells are lysed and the hemoglobin molecules are released and dispersed into the membrane by the action of surfactant. The hemoglobin apparatus emits light at 522 nm to the reflective surface of the membrane. The intensity of the reflected light is measured by a detector in less than 29 seconds. The intensity of the reflected light is converted to hemoglobin concentration, g/dL, or mmol/L by an interpolative comparison with stored reflection data indicative of known hemoglobin contents.

Hemoglobin test strip and analysis system

A self-contained analyzer quantitatively detects a clotting event in a biological fluid. The device includes a base having an open reservoir for receiving the biological fluid. A carrier for a dried activator reagent is located in or adjacent to the open reservoir. The biological fluid reconstitutes the dried reagent and starts the clotting process. During the clotting process the fluid travels through a capillary flow channel lined with a precision woven fabric. When clotting is completed, the woven fabric stops the flow of the fluid. A colored bar formed by the fluid flowing through the capillary channel indicates the length of time required for clotting of the sample.

Method and device for clotting time assay

A method for quantitatively measuring white blood cell count involves capture of white blood cells from a fluid sample by a retainer, removal of the red blood cells and other interfering substances by a wash solution, and reading the result of a color reaction in which an ester which is present on the white blood cells cleaves a chromogenic substrate which produces a water insoluble dye. The apparatus for use in the present method includes a retainer for white blood cells that has a dye substrate immobilized therein and an absorption layer that wicks and takes up all excess washing solution flowing past the sample.

Method and apparatus for measuring white blood cell count

A method and a system for separating glycated hemoglobin from non-glycated hemoglobin, and a method for one-read quantitative determination of the glycated hemoglobin and % HbA that does not require an additional measurement of total hemoglobin.
