A vehicle power system includes at least one main switch to electrically connect a traction battery and electric machine, at least one DC charge switch to electrically connect the traction battery and a DC charge port when the at least one main switch is closed, and a controller to, while the DC charge port is disconnected from a DC power source, sequentially close the at least one DC charge switch and then the at least one main switch.

Isolation fault detection on DC charge bus

A method of detecting a thermal event associated with a battery assembly of an electrified vehicle includes, among other things, obtaining a temperature reading from a sensor associated with an area of the battery assembly, assessing whether the sensor is flagged with a first identifier or a second identifier. The first identifier indicates that the temperature reading is reliable. The second identifier indicates that the temperature reading is unreliable. If the sensor is flagged with the first identifier, the method detects a thermal event associated with the battery assembly based on the temperature reading from the sensor.

Traction battery pack thermal event detection

A vehicle includes a traction battery; a bus; a main contactor between the traction battery and bus; a precharge contactor between the traction battery and bus in parallel with the main contactor; and a controller configured to, responsive to a first precharge mode signal, command a charging station to increase a voltage on the bus and subsequently close the precharge contactor before closing the main contactor, and responsive to a second precharge mode signal, close the precharge contactor without first commanding the charging station to increase the voltage on the bus before closing the main contactor.

Precharging for direct current fast charging

A system includes a primary monitoring system to determine a battery status of a battery pack and a secondary monitoring system configured to monitor the battery status as communicated by the primary monitoring system over a network. At least one of the primary and secondary monitoring systems generates a warning signal when the battery status comprises a thermal event that reaches a predetermined level.

Distributed battery thermal runaway detection

This disclosure describes exemplary electrified vehicle charging systems and methods for charging energy storage devices (e.g., battery packs) of the vehicles. An exemplary charging system may be configured to monitor the electrified vehicle for determining whether either a recoverable vehicle fault or a non-recoverable vehicle fault occurs during a charging event and to automatically command a charging sequence restart without unplugging a charging component from a vehicle inlet assembly in response to detecting the recoverable vehicle fault. The control system may also be configured to provide remote notification about the need to unplug and replug the charging component when the non-recoverable fault is detected or when greater than a predefined number of charging sequence restarts have been attempted.
