The present invention provides a dithering and directional modulation-based frame rate conversion apparatus comprising: a directional delta modulation generator configured to receive a plurality of input color data representing a plurality of input color components of an input pixel color and generate a plurality of modulated data for the plurality of input color data respectively; and a plurality of dithering modules configured to perform K-bit dithering conversion on the plurality of input color data respectively to generate a plurality of output color data for representing a plurality of output color components of an output pixel color with a color depth of K bits per component, where K is an integer equal to or great than 1. The present invention can allow display to support frame rates higher than its standard configuration without observable color depth degradation.

A computing device for interacting with a user, comprising: a touch-sensing enabled display panel comprising one or more touch sensors for sensing an on-screen touch and one or more physical keys being positioned adjacent to edges of the display panel and configured to serve as off-screen keys for sensing an off-screen touch. Method of sensing illuminance using passive matrix organic light emitting diode display including illuminance sensor function and method of controlling the same

A method is provided that allows the use of monochrome PMOLED display driver to generate grayscale patterns without the need to change the resolution of the 1-bit digital-to-analog converter (DAC) on the data line (SEG). The method further allows the elimination of extra frame buffer display memory needed by conventional techniques. This is achieved by swapping display memory space for display image pixel color (grayscale) depth in the expense of display resolution. The method further allows grayscale pattern data to be written into frame buffer only once without additional control from the host controller. The method further allows the dynamic application of grayscale on selectable whole or portion of a scan line such that full grayscale image display or a mixture of monochrome and grayscale image display in a single display panel is possible.

Method and apparatus of grayscale image generation in monochrome display

A system enabling compressed frame scanning for a display and a method thereof are described herein. A pixel having a maximum pixel data in a row of the plurality of rows corresponding to a frame is identified. The maximum pixel data identified in the row is assigned as a pixel data for the row. A scan time for the row is computed based upon the pixel data of the row and a scanning time associated with a unit of the brightness index. An aggregate scan time for the frame is determined based upon the scan time computed for each of the plurality of rows corresponding to the frame. Finally, the frame is scanned based upon the aggregate scan time determined for the frame thereby enabling compressed scanning of the frame. The method is further implemented for randomly assigned rows of the frame to two or more sub-frames of the frame.

A PMOLED touch-sensing display panel using anodes as in-cell touch sensors is provided. The anodes and the cathodes are respectively and correspondingly configured into two or more electrically isolated areas of cathodes and anodes such that the heavy parasitic capacitance due to close proximity of the anode layer and the cathode layer is eliminated, hence providing a full dynamic range in sensing the changes in capacitance due to finger touches.

A controller for detection of touches by a single finger or multiple fingers on a touch panel, the touch panel including a first group of electrodes arranged in a first direction and a second group of electrodes arranged in a second direction, thereby forming a plurality of crossover points. The controller includes: a plurality of signal drivers coupled to the first group of electrodes and configured to excite the first group of electrodes sequentially using a spread spectrum signal; a plurality of signal sensors coupled to the second group of electrodes and configured to detect peaks and troughs of capacitive coupled signals at the second group of electrodes, the detecting being performed simultaneously for the crossover points along a current one of the first group of electrodes that is being excited; and a signal processing device configured to detect the touches on the touch panel and to determine touch positions and touch movements, based on the detected peaks and troughs of the capacitive coupled signals.

Method and apparatus are provided for driving segments of a bistable display. The method may include providing, at the same time, a plurality of independent waveforms corresponding to display data for driving a plurality of segments of the display. The method may include selecting, for each segment, one of the independent driving waveforms. The method may also include determining whether an update of display data has occurred for one of the segments. The method may include selecting a different one of the waveforms to drive the segment if an update has occurred. The method may further include maintaining a currently selected waveform to drive the segment if an update has not occurred.
