Methods and systems for hybrid frac completion include installing a hybrid completion system in a well and, in each zone of a first plurality of zones for plug & perf completion: activating an outer shroud of expanding shape memory polymer (SMP) around a liner, and perforating, using a perforation gun, a borehole wall. The methods further include, in each zone of the second plurality of zones for sliding sleeve completion: activating an SMP packer, and activating a sliding sleeve to expose the borehole wall. The methods further include fracturing the borehole wall by pressurizing the well; sealing, between each zone in the first and second plurality of zones, by actuating a plurality of isolation valves disposed in each zone of the first plurality of zones and each zone of the second plurality of zones; and removing the plurality of isolation valves to produce the well.

Hybrid frac completion

A determination of caprock integrity in naturally fractured reservoirs for fluid injection such as carbon capture and storage (CCS). The caprock integrity and seal integrity is determined via a fracture reactivation index (FRI). A mechanical earth model is determined to quantify the minimum principal in-situ stress in the caprock to determine the injection pressure limits and safeguard against undesired breakthrough into adjacent zones. A fracture model is generated using the mechanical earth model, and a critical stress analysis may be performed. After determination of a fracture density index and Coulomb Excessive Failure Function (CEFF), the fracture reactivation index (FRI) is determined.

A process for the determining of sweet spot intervals based on a combination of rock quality, an in-situ stress regime, natural fractures, and the identification of fluid flow paths from the interaction of hydraulic fracturing and formation attributes. The process may include determining geological components, determining mechanical earth model outputs, and determining sweet spot intervals using additional data from fracture calibration tests. Systems and computer-readable media for the determining of sweet spot intervals are also provided.

A method of increasing hydrocarbon recovery from a wellbore in a tight formation with greater breakdown pressures, the method including using hydro-jetting to effect a plurality of oriented cavities or discoidal grooves in the horizontal portion of the wellbore to overcome near-wellbore stresses, injecting a thermally controlled fluid into the wellbore to alter the temperature of the formation and lower stresses, and then fracturing the formation to generate a series of fractures that can be formed in a planar formation.

Integrated methods for reducing formation breakdown pressures to enhance petroleum recovery

Petroleum may be recovered from a sub-surface reservoir by reducing the break-down pressure of a geological formation from an original break-down pressure to a reduced break-down pressure by exothermically reacting one or more reaction components in a carrier fluid adjacent to or within the geological formation, and forming fractures in the geological formation by hydraulic fracturing the geological formation.
