A method of estimating the distribution of bone mineral density in at least one portion of a person's skeleton. The method includes generating a geometrical representation of the portion of the skeleton; a geometrical representation in three dimensions of at least one portion of the outline of the person; and first and second X-ray images; and using software to estimate: a value for the thickness of soft tissue through which the given X-ray has passed; an attenuation coefficient of the soft tissues that have been passed through; a value for the thickness of bone tissue through which the given X-ray has passed; and using the thickness value for the soft tissue through which the given X-ray has passed, and a value for the attenuation of the given X-ray due to the thickness of the bone tissue through which it has passed, the software estimates a value representative of the bone mineral density of the bone tissues through which the given X-ray has passed.

Method for reconstruction of a three-dimensional model of a body structure

A method of producing a finite-element model of a unique body of complex shape having an outer surface that is known in the form of a cloud of points describing said surface analytically or algebraically in a determined frame of reference, the method comprising the steps of a) using a parameterizable and generic finite-element model made up of simple geometrical volumes and representative of the family to which the unique body belongs, b) adapting said model as a function of parameters describing the unique body that is to be modeled; c) in said frame of reference, adjusting the parameterized generic finite-element model and causing the surface nodes of said parameterized model to correspond to points of the known outer surface of the body by projecting said nodes onto said surface along a direction that is normal to the surface of the generic model, and d) using the nodes of the surface as control points for a three-dimensional interpolation method in order to personalize the internal finite elements of the generic model.

A radiographic imaging method for three-dimensional reconstruction in which the three-dimensional shape of a model representing an object is calculated from a geometrical model of the object that is known a priori, and obtained from a confinement volume of the object estimated from a geometrical pattern visible in two images and from knowledge of the positions of the sources. A geometrical model is used that comprises information making it possible using an estimator for the object to establish a geometrical characteristic for the model representing the object.

Method of radiographic imaging for three-dimensional reconstruction, and a computer program and apparatus for implementing the method

A calibration system is disclosed for a stereoradiographic device having an X-ray source and a vertical X-ray receiver, the calibration system includes a horizontal table which rotates between two reference positions that are separated by 90 degrees in a horizontal plane of the table. A vertical frame is fastened to the horizontal table and is symmetrical with an axis of rotation of the table, the frame accommodates a patient that remains stationary relative to the frame as the table is rotated between its two reference positions wherein corresponding X-ray photographs are taken. At least three markers made of radio-opaque material are firmly attached to the frame, one of the markers represents the origin of orthogonal X,Y and Z axes, a second of the markers is located at a predetermined point along the X-Y axes, the third marker located at a known distance along the Z axis, the markers defining respective distances Lx, Ly or H relative to the origin.
