A method includes engaging Parkinson's Disease (PD) subjects in a continuous motor performance task that elicits natural motor variability, quantifying natural motor variability of each PD subject with an array of motor metrics at short timescales, applying a machine-learning classification or regression algorithm to determine weights for each of these metrics to maximally differentiate each patient's motor performance from that of controls performing the same task, and combining the weights to determine a scalar metric of motor performance for each short epoch of motor behavior.

Neural biomarkers of Parkinson's disease

A system for placement of biocompatible electrodes in an opening formed in a patient's body part, such as DBS electrodes inserted into a patient's skull during surgical procedures in the brain. The system includes a coupled catheter and annulus. The catheter includes a guide tube having at least three cooperating guide elements configured to releasably fit together and collectively form a continuous lumen through the catheter that is dimensioned to receive an electrode therein. The annulus is configured to be placed in the opening formed in the patient's body part, and to receive the catheter therethrough. A track mechanism is used to operably couple the catheter to the annulus.

Coupled annulus and catheter system for placement of biocompatible brain electrodes and like devices

A system includes intracranial electrodes embedded into a cranium, a deep brain stimulation system embedded into the cranium, a brain implantable device embedded into the cranium, and a pulse generator, the deep brain stimulation system and the brain implantable device linked to the intracranial electrodes and to the pulse generator.

Brain implantable device

A fixation device including a base structure such as a faceplate having an inferior surface capable of contacting a surface of a skull of a patient, having a superior surface, and defining at least two securement features. Each securement feature can be engaged by a cranial fastener to attach the faceplate to the skull. The device further includes a fixation structure such as an alignment plate or a flexible fixation member carried by the base structure and positionable at least one of (i) over an opening in the skull and (ii) within an opening in the skull. At least one surface of the fixation structure defines at least one channel in which an intracranial device is capable of being placed, and further defines at least one fixation feature to enable the intracranial device to be secured to the fixation device.
