A radio receiver, in particular a vehicle radio receiver, is proposed, which is able to display or output acoustically, traffic news which is contained in digital signals. At least the data memory for the decoding of the digital traffic news and of the display or the output in the correct language is contained on a chip card, which can be inserted into the radio receiver. This makes it possible that, on the one hand, a linguistically adapted output of traffic news is possible, and, on the other hand, in the event of changes in the road network, a simple adaptation without modification of the radio receiver is made possible. Finally, it facilitates the use of the radio receiver worldwide, since the chip card allows regionally specific or country specific local codes to be taken into account.

To facilitate assembly and provide for high-level output from a deceleration sensor which provides, inherently, only very low level output, an evaluation circuit, such as an amplifier structure, is connected immediately adjacent the deceleration sensor on a common metal plate, interconnected thereby by bonding wires, the common plate having connecting pins (18) passing therethrough for connection to a standard plug-and-socket connector; the evaluation circuit and the deceleration sensor are enclosed within a common sealed housing, so that both the deceleration sensor (12, 12') as well as the evaluation circuit (16, 17) are sealed against ambient influences, preferably retained within a high-viscosity fluid, such as insulating oil. All elements can be located on one side of the housing, in which a standard T5 transistor housing is suitable; or the deceleration sensor may be located on the other side of the metal plate (10) from the evaluation circuit, in which case a plastic housing can be used, only the deceleration sensor being secured to the metal plate by a metal housing cap, sealed to the metal plate.

Trigger system for a vehicular passenger restraint system

The invention is directed to a circuit arrangement for the recording of false release signals for a restraint system such as an air bag system or a seat belt tensioning system in a vehicle. In this circuit arrangement, a release circuit including a first deceleration sensor and an evaluation circuit generates a release signal in the event of a deceleration caused by an accident. This release signal, however, becomes effective only if, at the same time, a second release circuit including a second deceleration sensor 17 responds, thereby triggering the restraint system. A monitoring circuit for monitoring the occurrence of a release signal without a concurrent response of the second release circuit will activate a warning device and inform the operator of the vehicle of the malfunction.

To provide for reliable explosion of an explosive pill, or the like in a passenger restraint system, for example to trigger an air belt, or a seat belt lock, an input signal derived from an impact transducer is applied to an integrator, the integrator being connected to a threshold circuit, to filter noise signals and the output signal from the threshold circuit being applied to an output terminal (8) for connection to the explosive pill or charge. To provide for reliable triggering of the explosive pill or charge, even if the input to the threshold circuit from the integrator passes the threshold level only for a very short period of time, so that the output signal from the threshold circuit (3) is below a desired minimum for triggering the explosive pill, the integrator is coupled to a threshold level circuit (1), the threshold setting of which is modified or changed upon occurrence of an output signal from the threshold circuit, by differentiating the output signal from the threshold circuit and modifying the threshold level in accordance with a differentiated signal; in the alternative, the output signal from the threshold circuit is passed through a summing circuit such as an OR gate (52) and, simultaneously used to trigger a monostable element (51), the output of which is summed in the OR gate to provide for an extended output UA at the output terminal of the system.

To reduce the number of connecting lines to the triggering circuit, the number of current lead-in terminals (20, 21) multiplied by the number of lead-off or return terminals (22, 23) from the firing circuits corresponds at least to the number of trigger restraint circuits (14-17) which are provided; and each of the trigger circuits (14-17) is connected to a different combination of current lead-in terminals (20, 21) and current lead-off terminals (22, 23), for example: 14: 21, 22; 15: 21, 23; 16: 20, 22; 17: 20, 23. The firing circuits can be tested by a simple test unit (FIG. 2) in which, sequentially, different connection patterns to the current lead-in and lead-off terminals are provided, and current flow checked under standard test voltage conditions.

A first deceleration sensor operates switches for energizing the release element of airbags in a vehicle, typically glow wires that will set off an explosive filling of the respective airbag. Connected through diodes to the various airbags is a circuit in parallel with the release elements of all of them which contains a fuse 49 in series with a normally closed switch 50, which last is controlled by a second deceleration sensor 52. If a short circuit or any malfunction causes any one or more of the airbags to release, since the sensor controlling the normally closed switch does not operate, the fuse blows to register a false release. The sensor controlling the normally closed switch may also control a normally open switch in series with all of the switches controlling individual airbags, so that both sensors must operate to release an airbag, and is economically combined into a mercury switch unit in which rapid deceleration moves the mercury to break one circuit and make another circuit, as distinguished from the first-mentioned sensor which operates switching transistors.

An apparatus for the open-loop or closed-loop control of the composition of the mixture desired in the combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine, which includes an exhaust gas sensor whose output signal together with other operational parameters, determines the mixture composition. The essential component of the apparatus is a storage unit with which charging and discharging sources controllable in accordance with the sensor signal are associated, wherein the magnitude of the charging and discharging signal is dependent on operational parameters. The storage unit may comprise a capacitor or a resistor-capacitor combination having one terminal connected to ground and another terminal efficiently connected with an operational voltage connection, so as to have in this manner an unequivocal association with a fixed potential.

In order to provide for complete testing of all the components of a trigger circuit for actuating an automotive passenger restraint system, and thereby to prevent unintentional deployment of restraint systems, for example air bags, the test circuit performs a testing program which is initiated at the moment when electric power is applied to the passenger safety system. The testing program checks the operation of the electronic discriminator circuits as well as the correct operation of the power output circuit by generating a simulated triggering signal. The actuation of the passenger restraint system is prevented during the test cycle by blocking an auxiliary semiconductor switch connected in series with the power output transistor of the triggering circuit.
