A power tool that includes a tool body housing, a drive system, a tool head and a connection system. The drive system is housed in the tool body housing. The tool head, which is configured to perform work on a work piece, includes a tool head housing and an input member that is driven by the drive system when the tool head is coupled to the tool body housing. The tool head can be engaged to the tool body housing in at least two pre-defined and distinct orientations. The connection system secures the tool head to the tool body housing in each of the at least two pre-defined and distinct orientations.

Power tool with interchangeable tool head

A tool for moving an abrasive media can include a tool body and a drive system housed in the tool body. The drive system can include an output member. A retaining member can be disposed on the tool body. A first platen having a first attachment hub can be selectively coupled with the retaining member in an installed position. The first platen can have a first rotatable member that selectively attaches to the output member in a first mode of operation. A second platen having a second attachment hub can selectively couple with the retaining member in an installed position. The second platen can have a second rotatable member that selectively attaches to the output member in a second mode of operation.

Multi-sander

A power tool with a reversible motor and a switch arrangement for controlling operation of the motor. The switch arrangement includes a direction switch, an actuator and an indicator. The direction switch is configured to control a rotational direction of the motor. The actuator is configured to receive a manual input from an operator indicative of a desired operational state of the motor. The indicator includes direction indicia indicative corresponding to operational states of the motor. The direction indicia is positioned at a location that is spaced apart from the actuator.

Switch arrangement for controlling operation of a motor of a power tool

A tool assembly with a driving tool and a holder assembly. The driving tool has a housing, a motor, an output member and a transmission for rotatably coupling the output member to the motor. The motor and the transmission are housed in the housing. The holder assembly has a leg, which is telescopically coupled to the housing, a fastener guide and an adjustment mechanism. The fastener guide includes a longitudinally extending groove that is configured to support a threaded fastener and a cam that is disposed transverse to the groove. The adjustment mechanism couples the fastener guide to the leg on a side of the leg opposite the housing. The adjustment mechanism is configured to vary a distance between the groove and a rotational axis of the output member.

Tool assembly having telescoping fastener support

A portable, hand-operated trimmer has a head module that is removably connected to a power control module. The head module has a power head enclosing an electric motor that is operatively connected to a trimming blade. The power head is selectably settable in a plurality of angular positions with respect to a head support, including a neutral position representing 0 degree rotation, 45 degree flexion and dorsiflexion positions, and 90 degree flexion and dorsiflexion positions. The power head also encloses a stator cartridge that is connected to the housing of the power head by a plurality of fastening members. The head support rotates about the stator cartridge and is engaged by way of a movable engagement pin that is received within a selected recess defined in the stator cartridge. The power head housing and stator cartridge further define molded sockets to receive corresponding pivot arms of the head support. An O-ring is disposed about one of the pivot arms to dampen free rotation. The power control module provides power to the power head through a removable rechargeable battery or through direct connection to conventional household power.

A tool for moving an abrasive media. The tool includes a tool body, a platen, a drive system and a retaining knob. The platen has an exterior platen surface and a knob aperture that is formed through the exterior platen surface. The drive system is housed in the tool body and configured to move the platen. The drive system includes an output member with a first threaded portion. The retaining knob is received through the knob aperture in the exterior platen surface of the platen. The retaining knob has a knob portion, which has an exterior surface, and an attachment member with a second threaded portion that is threadably coupled to the first threaded portion. The platen surface and at least a portion of the knob surface are co-planar. A related method is also provided.

Sander having removable platen

A sander can include a housing, an indicator disposed on the housing, and a motor assembly in the housing. The motor assembly can include an output member. A platen can be driven by the output member. A sensor assembly can be configured to sense a condition in which a pressing force in excess of a predetermined force is applied to the sander in a direction normal to the platen and generate a sensor signal in response thereto. A controller can receive the sensor signal from the sensor assembly and control operation of the indicator in response thereto. The sensor assembly can include a force sensing resistor. The force sensing resistor can be disposed adjacent to a gripping portion of the power sanding tool. The indicator can include at least one light source. The controller can illuminate the light source according to a schedule.

Sander

An elongated pole pruner for cutting and trimming trees, bushes and the like having three separable sections, that when assembled, form an extended length pruner. The pole pruner includes a first section containing a handle and battery pack, a second extension section, and a third section that contains the purner itself. Each of the sections contains an electrical conductor that is attached to corresponding conductor in an adjacent pole sections via a male plug and female receptacle. In this way, the battery pack in the first section of the pole is able to deliver power through the second section to the pruner in the third section.

A sander can include a housing, an indicator coupled to the housing, and a motor assembly in the housing. The motor assembly can include an output member. A platen can be driven by the output member. A DC generator can be driven by the output member. The DC generator can generate an output signal with a voltage that is related to a rotational speed of the motor. A controller can operate the visual indicator based on the voltage of the output signal. According to additional features, the DC generator can provide electrical power to operate the indicator. An electric power input can be electrically coupled to the motor. The visual indicator can be electrically isolated from the electric power input.

This invention is directed to a moveable catch. An automatic tape measure has a housing and a tape assembly. The tape assembly is supported in the housing and contains a tape switch, a reel, a drive, the movable catch, and a tape adapted to extend and retract from the front wall of the housing. The movable catch is coupled to a distal end of the tape. The movable catch includes a body, a spring, and a tongue. The tongue is pivotably coupled with the body via an axle. Thus, when the tape is extended, the tongue can pivot about the axle when it encounters an object in its path. The spring is positioned around the axle and causes the catch to return to its original, generally perpendicular position once the tongue passes the object.
