Product merchandising display system

Disclosed herein are a number of embodiments for wireless and non-conductive transfers of power and data to electronic devices. These technological advances can be implemented in retail security products (e.g., merchandising display positions for devices such as smart phones, tablet computers, wearables (e.g., smart watches), digital cameras, etc.) as well as docking systems for tablet computers.

Methods and apparatuses for wireless and non-conductive power and data transfers with electronic devices

The design described here is a new display for hand-held consumer electronic devices. The display has a mounting member, or puck, that is lifted from rest on a display surface. The puck carries a rechargeable power storage device for the hand-held device. The power storage device charges when the puck is at rest but is disconnected and powers the hand-held when the puck is lifted. The puck also carries a wireless device that outputs a security alarm signal for the purpose of indicating a theft event.

Display for hand-held electronics

The invention disclosed here is a display system for managing power and security for a plurality of hand-held electronic devices sold to consumers in a retail location. The display includes features that allow power to be supplied to individual devices and security sensors without continuous hard wiring or multi-conductor retractor cables. The display also allows for individual security alarms to be triggered when a theft occurs. Security alarm conditions are preferably triggered via wireless signals.

A retractor for an anti-theft display includes a lock that may hold the retractor's spool in fixed position against further rotation. The retractor's spool carries an anti-theft tether that normally extends or retracts as a tethered product is lifted to and from a retail display. The lock is capable of holding the tether in fixed position.

An intelligent motion sensing cable is disclosed, where a motion sensor that is included in the cable can detect cable motion. The cable can use this detected motion to generate data indicative of customer interactions with a connected electronic device. The cable can also use this detected motion to intelligently control a charge signal delivered by the cable to a connected electronic device.

An intelligent motion sensing cable is disclosed, where a motion sensor that is included in the cable can detect cable motion. The cable can then use this detected motion to intelligently control a charge signal delivered by the cable to a connected electronic device. The cable can also use this detected motion to generate data indicative of customer interactions with a connected electronic device.

A retractor for an anti-theft display includes a rotatable locking member that may hold the retractor's spool in fixed position against further rotation. The retractor's spool carries an anti-theft tether that normally extends or retracts as a tethered product is lifted to and from a retail display. The locking member holds the tether in fixed position.

The present disclosure relates generally to security systems and, more particularly, to a power and/or alarming security system for electrical appliances. In an example embodiment, an apparatus comprises a socket and a circuit. The socket can be configured for detachable electrical connection with an electrical appliance. The circuit can be configured to (1) provide power to a connected electrical appliance through the socket, and (2) calibrate an alarm limit for a security function for the socket based on a plurality of electrical characteristics of the connected electrical appliance that are measured via the socket, wherein the electrical characteristics comprise an admittance characteristic and a current draw characteristic of the connected electrical appliance. Furthermore, the circuit can calibrate the alarm limit for the socket according to a plurality of calibration phases.
