A valve for sealing the hub of a sheath assembly is provided. The valve includes a valve body having a solid thickness extending between a proximal surface and a distal surface. A bisecting slot extends across the proximal surface of the valve body and terminates at a depth less than the thickness of the valve body such that a portion of the valve body distally of the slot defines a bridge extending between opposed halves of the valve body such that the distal surface of the valve body is substantially continuous and a central portion of the proximal surface of the valve body is concave and defines a concave proximal portion.

Valve for dilator and sheath assembly

An implantable port assembly () having a lower housing () and an upper housing () and at least one chamber () and a corresponding septum () associated therewith. The upper housing () includes a plurality of latch arms () depending therefrom that latch with corresponding catches () of the lower housing for mechanically securing the assembly together during bonding or welding. Each septum () includes a peripheral flange () held in compression by and between the upper and lower housings () upon and after assembly. In a dual port assembly (), a pair of septa () are disposed side-by-side with overlapping flanges (), and the upper housing () includes posts () extending through apertures () through the overlapping flanges () that extend into holes () in the lower housing ().

Venous access port assembly and method of assembly

A device () for the expression of liquids, such as for the maintenance treatment of vascular catheters. A syringe () has a support structure () and includes at least two separate compartments () in which liquids for treating the lumen (L,) of a catheter (C,) with which the device is associated. The syringe further includes a closure plug () to be associated with the lumen being treated, which is coupled, by virtue of a releasable securement arrangement, to support structure (). At least one plunger () is also included for infusing, in preset order, the different treatment liquids into the lumen to be treated, and the syringe further includes a duct () which is in fluid communication with the two compartments and is arranged through a through hole through the closure plug () in order to allow access of the treatment liquid to the interior of the lumen (L,) upon activation of the plunger.

Method of using a syringe

A vascular guidewire introducer device () having a needle (), a bulb (), and a valve subassembly () through which a guidewire () is insertable for vascular guidewire insertion into a blood vessel () of a patient. The valve subassembly () includes a proximal fitting (), a proximal cap (), and a valve arrangement () disposed within a valve seat () defined by one of the fitting and the cap. The valve arrangement includes distal and proximal disc-shaped valve members () having centered slits () therethrough, and a spacer () disposed between the valve members. A method is disclosed for precisely centering the slits of the valve members during assembly and for retaining the valve members in their precisely centered positions in the valve seat. The valve arrangement permits use with a wide range of guidewire diameters.

Method for centering a valve

A catheter assembly () having an outer catheter () and an inner catheter () extending coaxially through the outer catheter, and a hub (). The inner catheter () is axially movable within and with respect to the outer catheter () by use of an actuator assembly () such that the catheter assembly has an opened condition permitting fluid communication with vasculature of a patient, and a closed condition preventing fluid communication with the vasculature of the patient. The opened condition permits the intended use of the catheter assembly such as for hemodialysis of the patient. In the closed condition, locking solution may be maintained in the catheter assembly and later removed therefrom, with essentially no locking solution leaving the catheter assembly or entering the patient. The actuator assembly () is secured to a proximal end portion () of the inner catheter () as it protrudes proximally from the hub (), where it is accessible to the practitioner. The actuator assembly () may comprise an adapter sleeve () fixed to the inner catheter (), and a swivel sleeve () which is rotatable with respect to both the adapter sleeve () and the hub ().

Closable and openable catheter assembly and method of using same

Sealing valve

A tearaway sheath assembly () having a splittable sheath tube () a splittable hub (), a splittable valve () and a split cap (). The valve () is of the elongated duckbill type and having a slit () almost completely across the distal end wall () such that two diverging sides () of the distal valve portion may be moved apart during insertion therethrough of a dilator or a catheter. A two-part cap () is affixed to the hub proximal end () and traps a seating flange () of the valve between itself and a seating groove () of the hub. Pairs of opposed gaps () of the cap () and the hub () are aligned with frangible sections or seams () of the sheath tube () and frangible sections () and slits () of the valve, facilitating splitting of the assembly () when desired by the practitioner to peel it away from the inserted catheter.

Hemostasis valve

A clamp assembly () for flexible tubing (), having a housing () and a clamp () slidable within the housing between first and second positions, to occlude the tubing when the clamp is in the second position. Both the clamp and the housing include tubing-engaging ribs () to compress the tubing when the clamp is moved from its first or open position to its second or occluding position, with the tubing-engaging ribs being axially offset to force the tubing () into a tortuous path causing occlusion thereof. A pair of latch arms () extend forwardly from the clamp to follow respective channels () formed into housing side walls (), with latch arm free ends () extending beyond the end of the housing to become latchingly engaged therewith when the clamp is moved into its occluding position, and also to be exposed to be manually engaged for delatching when desired.

An adapter assembly () for connecting a catheter assembly () to a tunneler () having a generally tubular body () having a first end (), a second end () and a longitudinal axis () extending therethrough between the first end and the second end. The first end () of the adapter is constructed to engage the proximal end () of a trocar (). The second end () of the adapter is constructed to releasably engage at least one catheter lumen (). A slider () is disposed about the adapter () and is longitudinally slidable along the adapter. When the slider () is slid towards the second end () of the adapter, the slider engages a plurality of legs (-) on the adapter and biases the plurality of legs toward each other and the longitudinal axis of the adapter. A method of subcutaneously tunneling a catheter using the adapter assembly is also described that comprises inserting a catheter into a patient, connecting the proximal end of a trocar to the adapter assembly, releasably restraining at least one lumen of the catheter in the adapter, and tunneling the assembly.

Method of using a catheter tunneler adapter

A tearaway introducer sheath assembly () having an integrated valve (). The valve is seated within a valve housing () defined by the hub portion () of the sheath (). The valve () includes a pair of distally extending opposed side walls or flaps () extending to converge at a distal tip () having a virtual opening () therethrough. The valve further includes a pair of tensioners () along outer surfaces of the opposed side walls () that extend radially outwardly to engage and bear against the interior valve housing surface () to press the opposed side walls () together at the distal tip () for sealing, both when a dilator extends through the valve and sheath and afterward upon removal of the dilator.
