The present invention relates to poly(ester-ether) compositions and to a process for their preparation. In particular, the invention relates to poly(ester-ether) compositions obtained by reacting a polyester which is prepared from a dicarboxylic acid and an aliphatic diol with a dihydroxy aromatic compound in the presence of a metal catalyst. Incorporation of the dihydroxy aromatic compound into the polyester chain causes an increase in the Tg value and increases the thermal stability of the polyester. These poly(ester-ether) compositions are useful in molded articles of all types.

Disclosed is a poly(ether-ketone) having an inherent viscosity of at least 0.4 and consisting of the repeating unit ##STR1## wherein each Ph is 1,4-phenylene. The poly(ether-ketone) is derived from two specific reactants, 1,3-bis-(4-phenoxybenzoyl)benzene and 4,4'-oxydibenzoic acid which may be reacted in the presence of methanesulfonic acid and phosphorus pentoxide.

A process for preparing a polyarylate by heating in the melt phase in the presence of a 4-dialkylaminopyridine, an acid anhydride which is in the range of stoichiometric amount to 25% molar excess, bisphenol-A and a dicarboxylic acid selected from the group consisting of isophthalic acid and mixtures of isophthalic acid and terephthalic acid wherein the ratio of isophthalic acid to terephthalic acid is in the range of 100:0 to 25:75.

Melt phase polyarylate process

Disclosed are polycarbonates of cyclohexylhydroquinone having the recurring units: ##STR1## and copolycarbonates of cyclohexylhydroquinone having the recurring units: ##STR2## The polycarbonates and copolycarbonates of cyclohexylhydroquinone are characterized by their excellent solubility at high solids levels and absence of crystallization problems when used in solutions at high concentrations.

Disclosed is an improved process for the preparation of polyketone and poly(ketone-sulfone) polymers by the reaction of at least one dicarboxylic acid with certain aromatic compounds containing at least four benzene residues in the presence of a perfluoroalkylsulfonic acid and (1) an oxide of phosphorus and/or (2) a perhaloalkanoic anhydride.

Process for the preparation of polyketone and poly(ketone-sulfone)

Disclosed is an improved process for the preparation of poly(ether-ketone) polymers by the reaction of at least one dicarboxylic acid with certain bis(phenoxybenzoyl) compounds in the presence of a perfluoroalkylsulfonic acid and (1) an oxide of phosphorus and/or (2) a perhaloalkanoic anhydride.
