This invention provides a closure cap and cap assembly for substantially gas-tight sealing engagement with a container closure having an opening therein circumscribed by a substantially smooth sealing surface thereon. The closure cap includes a sealing portion releasably engageable in surrounding gas-tight sealing relation with the sealing surface on the container closure. The sealing portion comprises elastic portions circumferentially spaced by a plurality of radially extending less elastic portions. The cap assembly of this invention may be anchored to the end wall of a container closure.

Resealable container closure

This invention relates to an endwall for a container having a panel portion surrounded by a substantially vertical wall portion which terminates into a narrow rim. The rim is connected to a sidewall of the container. The wall portion extends outward from the container and is adapted to be reformed inwardly into the container in a controlled manner by an external mechanism to reduce the volume thereof after the container has been filled and sealed. The invention also relates to a method of packaging a product in a container having a body opened at one end and closed at an opposite end by an endwall as described above. The method includes the steps of filling the container with a product and sealing the open end, thermally treating the filled and sealed container, and reforming the endwall inwardly into the container. The sequence of steps can be rearranged.

This invention relates to an endwall for a container having a panel portion surrounded by a substantially vertical wall portion which terminates into a narrow rim. The rim is connected to a sidwall of the container. The wall portion extends outward from the container and is adapted to be reformed inwardly into the container in a controlled manner by an external mechanism to reduce the volume thereof after the container has been filled and sealed. The invention also relates to a method of packaging a product in a container having a body opened at one end and closed at an opposite end by an endwall as described above. The method includes the steps of filling the container with a product and sealing the open end, thermally treating the filled and sealed container, and reforming the endwall inwardly into the container. The sequence of steps can be rearranged.

Inwardly reformable endwall for a container

A gauge having a substantially circular band capable of being deformed out-of-round from the application of a predetermined force and having a specified inner circumferential length to be compared with the length of a circumference around an object. The gauge further includes a support body adapted to connect with the band so as not to enable positioning the band in coaxial alignment with the object circumference and allow the band to flex and deform in circumscribing the circumference when the band is moved axially to accomplish such circumscribing.

Gauge for comparing circumferences

A device for attaching a fitment to an open mouth container and for tamper-evident sealing of the fitment with the fitment attached thereto. The device includes a closure portion having a first skirt portion adapted for rolling a thread to engage a cooperating thread on the fitment. Other skirt portions are adapted for rolling such portions into engagement with the fitment and the container to firmly attach the fitment to the container, and a fracturable line of weakening is provided between the first skirt portion and the other skirt portions to provide evidence that the container has been opened upon a first unthreading of the closure.

Device for attaching a fitment to a container

A housing for a ball in a nonrefillable pour fitment for assembly with a bottle having an open mouth to prevent fraudulent refilling of the bottle. The housing is comprised of a hollow cylinder adapted for assembly with the bottle and a cup-shaped ball enclosure contained within the cylinder, the enclosure having a diameter or greatest dimension across the cup mouth less than the inside diameter of the hollow cylinder. The ball enclosure is coaxially disposed within the cylinder with the cup mouth recessed inwardly from the cylinder end to be directed toward the interior of the bottle when assembled with the bottle. The enclosure is maintained in a spaced relationship between the cylinder wall and the cup wall defining the cup mouth by a plurality of bridges connecting portions of the cylinder wall with portions of the cup wall defining and projecting away from the cup mouth.

Ball housing for a nonrefillable pour fitment

A tamper-evident closure having a central disc end wall panel bonded to a sealing liner and connected to an annular end wall projecting inwardly from the closure skirt wall by at least two fracturable bridges. Removal of a closure of this invention after being applied to a container causes at least one of the bridges to fracture giving evidence that at least an attempt has been made to remove the closure.

Tamper-evident closure

A method and apparatus for removing a liner from a formed metal closure by at least partially everting the closure with an advancing punch adapted to temporarily couple the everted closure. By everting the closure, the liner becomes accessible to be retained within the closure support and is separated from the closure when the punch is retracted. A stripper is provided adjacent the punch to separate the everted metal portion of the closure from the punch.

Method and apparatus for everting a closure and separating a liner

A container closure assembly for maintaining a sterile sealed container is provided having a ferrule having a top annular portion and a depending skirt portion for securing a resilient stopper for sealing the mouth of a container to the container, and a ring fitment for opening the closure assembly overlying and interlocking with the ferrule. The ferrule includes a central opening in the top annular portion, upwardly projecting locking portions about the periphery of the opening and a weakening line radially outwardly of and concentric with the locking portions. The fitment includes a disk portion and a concentric outer lifting ring hingedly connected to the inner disk portion for opening the closure assembly. The disk portion is secured within the opening of the top portion of the ferrule by the locking projections.
