The disclosure includes embodiments for performing beam alignment for non-line of sight (NLOS) scenarios. The method includes receiving, at a first vehicle, one or more wireless messages that include vehicle data, wherein the vehicle data describes a second vehicle position, a second vehicle speed, and a second vehicle heading. The method also includes determining sensor data. The method also includes determining an NLOS path based on the vehicle data and the sensor data so that the NLOS path avoids a potential blockage. The method also includes determining whether the NLOS path is predicted to succeed based on a beam transmission percentage satisfying a threshold percentage. The method also includes responsive to the NLOS path being predicted to succeed, performing beam alignment between the first vehicle and the second vehicle based on the NLOS path before the potential blockage is predicted to occur.

Vehicular millimeter wave communication for non-line of sight scenarios

The disclosure includes implementations for determining a position of a vehicle using millimeter wave narrow beamforming. A method may include receiving a set of training packets that each uniquely identify a position on a portion of a roadway where the vehicle is located. Each of the training packets included in the set may be associated with only one of the millimeter wave narrow beams. The method may include identifying a training packet included in the set of training packets that has a highest receive power level among the set of training packets. The method may include determining the position uniquely identified by the training packet having the highest receive power level. The method may include determining positional information for the vehicle based on the position uniquely identified by the training packet having the highest receive power level. The positional information may describe a location of the vehicle on the roadway.

Precise positioning using millimeter wave narrow beamforming

The disclosure includes embodiments for minimizing radar interference. In some embodiments, a method includes observing, for a time frame, an order in which Basic Safety Messages ('BSMs') are received by a DSRC radio of the ego vehicle and broadcasted by the DSRC radio of the ego vehicle. In some embodiments, the method includes building a data structure that includes digital data that describes the order in which the BSMs were received and transmitted by the DSRC radio during the time frame. In some embodiments, the method includes assigning, by the onboard computer of the ego vehicle, radar parameters to the one or more other DSRC-enabled vehicles and the ego vehicle based on the order described by the digital data included in the data structure.

Vehicular radar interference management using basic safety messages

The disclosure includes embodiments for establishing millimeter wave vehicle-to-vehicle communications for data sharing. In some embodiments, a method includes receiving, at an ego vehicle, a first beacon from a first vehicle, wherein the first beacon includes first scheduling information and first localization information and the first beacon is broadcast as a millimeter wave (mmWave) communication. The method includes determining a schedule based on the first scheduling information. The method includes broadcasting a second beacon based on the schedule. The method includes establishing a current link between the ego vehicle and the first vehicle. The method includes transmitting data to the first vehicle using the current link based on the schedule.

Millimeter wave vehicle-to-vehicle communication system for data sharing

The disclosure includes a system and method implemented by a computer system of a vehicle that is a transmitter of a millimeter wave message ('mmWave message') which is transmitted to a receiver of the mmWave message. In some embodiments, the method includes measuring, by a perception sensor, sensor data describing the locations of objects that are proximate to the receiver and the transmitter. The method includes determining angle data describing one or more angles of arrival and one or more angels of departure for the objects. The method includes generating propagation data describing a list of paths between the transmitter and the receiver and channel gains for each path included in the list of paths. The method includes determining a plurality of channels for successfully transmitting the mmWave message to the receiver. The method includes transmitting the mmWave message to the receiver simultaneously using the plurality of channels.
