A retractor assembly may include a retractor removably coupled with a retractor handle. The retractor may include a handle connection feature, a retractor shaft, an arcuate projection having a convex retractor surface and a cutting shield surface, and a guide projection having an aperture shaped to receive at least a portion of a femoral condyle therein to position the retractor relative to a tibial plateau. The retractor handle may include a handle portion and a retractor connection feature. The retractor may be placed on a lateral side of a medial collateral ligament of a knee joint to retract the medial collateral ligament away from a tibial plateau of the knee joint and protect the medial collateral ligament during a tibial plateau resection procedure.

Ligament retractor

A gap gauge is disclosed for facilitating an arthroplasty procedure on a first bone and a second bone of a patient. The gap gauge may include a first plate positionable in contact with the first bone, a second plate positionable in contact with the second bone. The second plate may be displaced from the first plate by a displacement. The gap gauge may further include a separator connected to the first plate and the second plate, a separation indicator coupled to the separator and configured to indicate the displacement, and a balance indicator connected to at least one of the first plate and the second plate. The balance indicator may indicate a balance status between the first plate and the second plate. The separator can be actuated to adjust the displacement.

Arthroplasty balance and gap gauge and cutting guidance

Implant assemblies, systems, kits, and methods for replacing a knee joint may include a universal femoral trial component for preparing and trialing a femoral bone of a patient to receive a plurality of different femoral implant types. The assembly may include a body and drill guide and an attachment mechanism including first and second compressible tabs and a rotatable handle operationally connected to the first and second tabs. The universal femoral trial component may be configured to receive any of a plurality of femoral bone preparation attachments and any of a plurality of femoral trial attachments in order to facilitate the preparation and trialing of the femoral bone to receive the plurality of different femoral implant types.

Universal femoral trial system and methods

A knee joint prosthesis may be for implantation in a knee of a patient. The knee prosthesis may comprise a tibial component configured to be implanted on the tibia and a femoral component configured to be implanted on the femur. The femoral component may comprise a medial condyle with a medial articulation surface and a lateral condyle with a lateral articulation surface. The medial articulation surface and the lateral articulation surface may be shaped substantially symmetrically to each other across a femoral component plane bisecting the femoral component. The tibial component may comprise an articulation surface with a medial articulation side configured to articulate with the medial articulation surface and a lateral articulation side configured to articulate with the lateral articulation surface. The medial articulation side and the lateral articulation side may be shaped substantially asymmetrically to each other across a tibial component plane bisecting the tibial component.

Knee prosthesis

A knee joint prosthesis system for implantation in a first knee joint of a patient. The first knee joint has a condition. The knee joint prosthesis system includes a tibial baseplate component, a femoral component having a femoral articulation surface, and a tibial insert. The tibial insert includes a tibial articulation surface configured to articulate with the femoral articulation surface. The tibial articulation surface includes a medial tibial compartment asymmetrical to a lateral tibial compartment. The tibial articulation surface is shaped to cooperate with the femoral articulation surface to adapt kinematics of the first knee joint having the condition and the tibial articulation surface is also suitable for implantation in a second knee joint on a second side, the second knee joint lacking the condition.

A gap gauge is disclosed for facilitating an arthroplasty procedure on a first bone and a second bone of a patient. The gap gauge may include a first plate positionable in contact with the first bone, a second plate positionable in contact with the second bone. The second plate may be displaced from the first plate by a displacement. The gap gauge may further include a balance indicator configured to indicate a balance status between the first plate and the second plate and a pin guide. The pin guide is configured to couple to one of the first plate and second plate and includes a pin hole that is configured to guide a pin for insertion into the second bone. The pin can be used to couple a cutting guide to the second bone to resect the second bone to adjust the balance status.

An assembly may include a retractor pivotally coupled to a guide rod. The retractor may include a generally arcuate projection having a convex retractor surface, a concave cutting shield surface, and a retractor coupling feature. The guide rod may include an elongate member and a rod coupling feature that may be configured to engage the retractor coupling feature to pivotably couple the guide rod to the retractor. The assembly may be placed on a lateral side of a medial collateral ligament of a knee joint to retract the medial collateral ligament away from a tibial plateau of the knee joint and protect the medial collateral ligament during a tibial plateau resection procedure.

A prosthesis for replacing a natural articular surface on a bone may have a joint facing side with an articular surface, a bone anchoring side with a bone engagement surface, and a bone engagement pad secured to at least part of the bone engagement surface. The bone engagement pad may have a transverse portion extending transverse to a length of the bone, and one or more protruding portions extending generally perpendicular to the transverse portion. The transverse portion may have a pad bone-facing surface with a first porosity level, and a pad joint-facing surface on an opposite side of the transverse portion from the pad bone-facing surface, with a second, lower porosity level. The bone engagement surface may be formed via a first manufacturing process selected from the group consisting of forging, milling, and casting. The bone engagement pad may be formed via an additive manufacturing process.

Orthopedic implants and methods

Implant assemblies, systems, and methods for replacing a knee joint may include a method of revising a knee joint prosthesis implanted in a knee of a patient to provide increased stability to the knee joint prosthesis by replacing a first tibial insert with a second tibial insert that provides more constraint that the first tibial insert. A knee joint prosthesis system and kit are also provided that may include a tibial baseplate component, a femoral component, and a tibial insert that is selectively interchangeable with other tibial inserts to provide varying levels of constraint and stability to the knee joint prosthesis.

Modular knee prothesis

Implant assemblies, systems, kits, and methods for replacing a knee joint may include a universal femoral trial component for preparing and trialing a femoral bone of a patient to receive a plurality of different femoral implant types. The universal femoral trial component may be configured to receive any of a plurality of femoral bone preparation attachments and any of a plurality of femoral trial attachments in order to facilitate the preparation and trialing of the femoral bone to receive the plurality of different femoral implant types.

A knee arthroplasty system may have a femoral joint prosthesis with a femoral bone engagement surface with an anterior portion, a posterior portion, and a distal portion that connects the anterior portion to the posterior portion. A first femoral anchoring member may protrude from the distal portion, and may be connected to the anterior portion with a primary femoral web. A tibial resection guide may have a base member and a guide member with a slot that guides a cutting blade to resect the tibial plateau. The guide member may slide along an arcuate path relative to the base member.

Knee arthroplasty systems and methods

A prosthesis may have an articulating component formed via casting and a 3D printed bone anchoring component with a joint-facing side and a bone-facing side. The bone-facing side may have a bone engagement surface with a porous structure with pores selected to facilitate in-growth of the bone into the pores. The bone facing side may further have a surface layer of Titanium Dioxide nanotubes. The joint-facing side may be secured to the articulating component by melting Titanium nanoparticles at a temperature below the melting temperatures of the major constituents of the articulating component and/or the bone anchoring component, such as Cobalt, Chromium, and/or Titanium, so as to avoid significantly modifying the crystalline structures of the articulating component and/or the bone anchoring component. The melting temperature of the Titanium nanoparticles may be about 500&#xb0; C.
