In some aspects, a wireless sensor device includes a voltage controlled oscillator. The voltage controlled oscillator includes a resonator circuit, a multiplexer and control logic. The resonator circuit includes a switched capacitor bank operable to tune the resonator circuit. The multiplexer is communicatively coupled to the switched capacitor bank to select combinations of capacitor bank elements based on input values representing digital capacitance levels. The multiplexer includes a first multi-bit input configured to receive a first set of values representing a first combination of the capacitor bank elements; a second multi-bit input configured to receive a second set of values representing a second combination of the capacitor bank elements; and a multi-bit output configured to communicate the first or second set of values to the switched capacitor bank. The control logic is configured to generate the first and second sets of values for each of the digital capacitance levels.

Controlling a switched capacitor bank in a voltage controlled oscillator for wireless sensor devices

In some aspects, a wireless sensor device includes a voltage controlled oscillator. The voltage controlled oscillator includes a first inverter, a second inverter, and a transformer connected between the first and second inverters. The first inverter includes a first inverter input node and a first inverter output node. The second inverter includes a second inverter input node and a second inverter output node. The transformer includes a primary winding portion, a first secondary winding portion, and a second secondary winding portion. The primary winding portion is connected between the first inverter output node and the second inverter output node and is inductively coupled to the first and second secondary winding portions. The first secondary winding portion is connected between the primary winding portion and the first inverter input node. The second secondary winding portion is connected between the primary winding portion and the second inverter input node.

Transforming voltage in a voltage controlled oscillator for wireless sensor devices

A system for analyte measurement includes a programmable gain amplifier including a first input terminal operatively coupling to the output of a sensor for sensing an analyte, a second input terminal operatively coupling to a voltage source, and an output terminal for providing an output based on a difference between inputs on the first input terminal and the second input terminal A controller is operatively coupled to the programmable gain amplifier for configuring the operation range of the programmable gain amplifier and/or selecting the output of the programmable gain amplifier for analyte measurement. The method includes monitoring an output from a programmable gain amplifier operatively coupling to a sensor for sensing an analyte, and controlling the operation range of the programmable gain amplifier, and/or selecting the output of the programmable gain amplifier for analyte measurement.

Programmable gain amplifier with multi-range operation for use in body sensor interface applications

A wide tuning range and constant swing VCO is described that is based on a multipass Ring Oscillator enhanced with feed-backward connections. This VCO is designed to overcome tuning range limitations of prior-art 'feed-forward' ring oscillators. The Feedback multipass Ring Oscillator of the invention provides decreasing frequency when tuned by increasing the feedback, thus covering a much wider tuning range irrespective of the speed limit of the technology while at the same time providing almost constant amplitude.

Voltage Controlled Oscillator (VCO) with a wide tuning range and substantially constant voltage swing over the tuning range

A low-phase noise voltage control oscillator (VCO) comprising a voltage source for supplying control voltage to the VCO core; a phase lock loop, having an output connected to an input of the voltage source; a VCO core, including an amplifier circuit with noiseless biasing and a tank circuit with noiseless biasing of the varactors; having an output connected to an input of the phase lock loop; and an attenuator, located between the voltage source and the VCO core, for reducing phase noise from the voltage source to the VCO core.
