A first plurality of contact locations may be determined in view of a first scan of a touch-sensing surface and a second plurality of contact locations may be determined in view of a second scan of the touch-sensing surface. A number of total contact locations may be identified in view of the first plurality of contact locations and the second plurality of contact locations. Furthermore, a first correlation process may be performed when the number of total contact locations satisfies a threshold number and a second correlation process may be performed when the number of total contact locations does not satisfy the threshold number.

Touch identification for multi-touch technology

A method and apparatus for scanning a first set of electrodes of a capacitive sense array using a first sensing mode to identify a presence of an object in proximity to the capacitive sense array, where scanning using the first sensing mode identifies objects not in physical contact with the capacitive sense array. The first set of electrodes is scanned using a second sensing mode to determine a location of the object in relation to the capacitive sense array, where rescanning using the second sensing mode determines locations of objects in physical contact with the capacitive sense array.

Capacitance scanning proximity detection

The capacitance sensing array comprising a plurality of nodes corresponding to intersections of a first plurality of electrodes with a second plurality of electrodes may be scanned. Capacitance values associated with one or more of the nodes may be measured. The capacitance values may be representative of a touch object proximate to the one or more of the nodes. A peak capacitance value of the capacitance values of one or more of the nodes may be identified. A set of capacitance values comprising cells based on the peak capacitance value may be generated. A portion of the cells of the set are associated with the nodes corresponding to the intersections of the first plurality of electrodes with the second plurality of electrodes and at least one of the cells of the set is associated with a virtual node that does not correspond to the intersections.

Contact identification and tracking on a capacitance sensing array

An apparatus may include processing logic coupled with a force sensor input and a touch sensor input. The processing logic is configured to determine a relative force magnitude based on a force signal received at the force sensor input and a baseline measurement of the force sensor. The processing logic updates the baseline measurement in response to detecting that the touch signal indicates the absence of the one or more touches from the sensing surface.

Techniques for eliminating tail effect are described herein. In an example embodiment, a device comprises a sensor coupled with a processing logic. The sensor is configured to measure a plurality of measurements from a sensor array when the sensor array is in an unsettled state, where the measurements represent a conductive object that is proximate to a touch-sensing surface of the sensor array. The processing logic is configured to determine a set of adjustment values that correspond to a tail effect associated with the plurality of measurements, and to generate adjusted measurements corresponding to the plurality of measurements based on the set of adjustment values.

A technique for providing reliable position calculations for conductive inputs at the edges of a touch-sensitive array is disclosed. A matrix of sensors is completed using virtual sensors or nodes, allowing for a closer approximation of position of a conductive object. The matrix may be defined by a center point or sensor and a number of surrounding nodes or sensors.

A method of operating a touch-sensing surface may include determining a first plurality of contact locations including a first contact location, determining a second plurality of contact locations including a second contact location, performing a first correlation process for correlating the second contact location with the first contact location when the number of contacts is less than or equal to a first threshold number, and performing a second correlation process for correlating the second contact location with the first contact location when the number of contacts is greater than a second threshold number.
