A child detection device for a child safety seat for an automobile according to an example includes a plurality of sensors to be positioned on the child safety seat, wherein the plurality of sensors includes at least one capacitive sensor to generate analog capacitive signals. The child detection device includes a conversion circuit to convert the analog capacitive signals to digital capacitive values. The child detection devices includes a controller to identify movement of an object based on the digital capacitive values, and determine whether a child is positioned in the child safety seat based on the digital capacitive values and the identified movement.

A hydrometer device according to an example includes a floating waterproof device container, and a liquid level sensor positioned in the device container to sense an immersion level of the device container when the device container is floating in a container of liquid. The hydrometer device further includes a conversion circuit positioned in the device container to convert the sensed immersion level to a digital value, and a controller positioned in the device container to determine a liquid density value for the liquid based on the digital value.

Measured signal data, detected by a sensor array of a device, is used to create a generated representation from the measured signal data. The generated representation is compared with a measured representation of the measured signal data to create a correlation coefficient corresponding to a correlation between the generated representation and the measured representation of the measured signal data. A hover event is detected for the device if the correlation coefficient exceeds a first threshold. If the correlation coefficient does not exceed the first threshold, then the measured signal data is determined to not be indicative of a hover event.

Hover detection for touchscreens

A capacitance sensing device includes a transmit (TX) generator for generating a sequence of receive (RX) signals by applying each TX signal pattern in a sequence of TX signal patterns to a set of sensor electrodes. For each TX signal pattern in the sequence of TX signal patterns, and for each subset of three or more contiguous sensor electrodes of the set of sensor electrodes, the TX generator applies to the subset one of a first excitation signal and a second excitation signal. The plurality of subsets includes at least half of the sensor electrodes in the set of sensor electrodes. The capacitance sensing device also includes a sequencer circuit coupled with the TX generator. For each TX signal pattern in the sequence of TX signal patterns, the sequencer circuit determines a next subsequent TX signal pattern in the sequence based on a circular rotation of the TX signal pattern. The capacitance sensing device also includes a processing block coupled with the TX generator. The processing block detects a presence of an object proximate to the set of sensor electrodes based on a measure of correlation between the sequence of RX signals and a predetermined function.

Hover sensing with multi-phase self-capacitance method

Apparatuses and methods of multi-phase scanning of a touch panel are described. One apparatus selects a sequence having a number of one values, negative one values, and zero values. The one values correspond to an in-phase drive signal, the negative one values correspond to an opposite-phase drive signal, and the zero values correspond to a reference signal (e.g., reference voltage or ground). A sum of the sequence is equal to zero. The apparatus applies one of the in-phase drive signal, the opposite-phase drive signal, or the reference signal to each of a first set of electrodes at a first stage according to the sequence. The apparatus rotates the sequence to obtain a rotated sequence and applies one of the signals according to the rotated sequence. The apparatus receives sense signals to detect a presence of an object on the touch panel.

Multi-phase exciting and scanning with zero-sum sequences

A method, apparatus, and system measure, at a first channel of a processing device, a first signal indicative of a touch object proximate to an electrode layer. The first signal includes a touch data component and a first noise component generated by a noise source. The method, apparatus, and system measure, at a second channel of the processing device, a second signal including a second noise component generated by the noise source. The second channel is coupled to a shield layer disposed between the noise source and the electrode layer. The method, apparatus, and system generate an estimated noise signal using the second noise component of the second signal that is associated with the second channel. The method, apparatus, and system subtract the estimated noise signal from the measured first signal to obtain the touch data component of the first signal.

Suppressing noise in touch panels using a shield layer

A method for detecting fingerprint spoof objects includes detecting a presence of the object at a fingerprint sensor and, in response to detecting the presence of the object, measuring a set of physical properties of the object based on one or more signals from a set of electrodes of the fingerprint sensor. The set of physical properties includes at least one of a subdermal compliance of the object and a surface adhesiveness of the object. The method further includes distinguishing the object as an actual finger or a spoof based on the one or more physical properties.

Apparatuses and methods of frequency hopping algorithms are described. One method monitors a signal on one or more electrodes of a sense network at a first operating frequency and detects noise in the signal at the first operating frequency. The method then switches to a second operating frequency, based on said detecting, for scanning the electrodes to detect a conductive object proximate to the plurality of electrodes, wherein a constant integration time is used for one half-period when scanning the electrodes at both the first and second operating frequencies.

An apparatus includes a transmission system configured to transmit a drive signal to a touch screen device. The apparatus also includes a reception system configured to integrate an output signal received from a touch screen device in response to the drive signals and to filter the integrated output signal to suppress noise in the output signal, wherein the reception system is configured to integrate the output signal for a period of time that is less than or equal to a signal period corresponding to the drive signal.

Edge-by-edge integration and conversion

A method, apparatus, and system are described to perform, by a capacitance-sensing circuit, capacitance sensing of an electrode of a capacitive sense array of electrodes. Performing the capacitance sensing includes integrating, on a passive integrator circuit, charge from a sensed capacitance of the electrode of the capacitive sense array. The passive integrator circuit integrates the charge on a self-capacitance of the electrode as part of the integrating. The capacitance-sensing circuit converts the charge from the sensed capacitance of the electrode into a digital value representing the sensed capacitance of the electrode.

Apparatus and methods of de-convolution for multi-phase scans of an array of electrodes are described. One programmable circuit includes a sequencer to initiate a multi-phase transmit (TX) scan of an array of electrodes to obtain capacitance data. The capacitance data is stored in one or more storage devices as convoluted capacitance data. The programmable circuit also includes a digital circuit block to read the convoluted capacitance data from the one or more storage devices, de-convolve the convoluted capacitance data to obtain de-convoluted capacitance data, and store the de-convoluted capacitance data in the one or more storage devices.

Hardware de-convolution block for multi-phase scanning

Apparatuses and methods of hardware de-convolution for multi-phase scanning of a touch arrays are described. One apparatus includes a memory device configured to store a capacitance map including convolved capacitance data. The convolved data are results of multi-phase transmit (TX) scanning of a sense array with multiple TX patterns. The apparatus further comprises a de-convolution circuit block coupled to the memory device. The de-convolution circuit block is configured to de-convolve the convolved capacitance data with inverses of the multiple TX patterns to obtain capacitance data for a de-convolved capacitance map.

Apparatuses and methods of driving different transmit (TX) phase sequences of a TX signal on TX electrodes in different sensing stages according to a weighting matrix as the excitation matrix. One method drives the TX signals according to the weighting matrix and measures receive (RX) signals on the RX electrodes to determine if an object is proximate to the electrodes.
