The present disclosure relates to a process and a kit for dyeing keratin-containing fibers, in particular human hair, using selected natural dyes and an iron(II) salt. The kit includes an aqueous composition (M) and an aqueous composition (T), where the aqueous composition (M) includes a polyphenol and a buffer system. The aqueous composition (T) includes a salt of the divalent iron cation Fe(II), and optionally includes a buffer.

Glycolipids of branched chain alkyl oligosaccharides include a primary alcohol branched in the 2-position and an oligosaccharide, covalently bond to the alcohol in either &#x3b1;- or &#x3b2;-linkage (shown in Formula I and Formula II). These compounds show phase behavior not found for the corresponding straight chain counterparts. The properties involve an ambient temperature liquid crystalline appearance and thermotropic liquid crystal phase polymorphism. The formation of cubic phases is considered most interesting with respect to life science applications, e.g. liposomes for drug delivery. Depending on the choice of sugar head group and alkyl tail, various levels of water miscibility may be adjusted to meet applications requirements (complete solubility for emulsifier applications, e.g. cosmetic creams, to limited water swelling only, e.g. for the preparation of artificial membranes). The closed structural relationship to natural lipids also makes branched chain alkyl oligosaccharides valuable subjects for biochemical investigations, e.g. membrane studies.

The invention relates to chiral compounds containing at least one divalent or polyvalent chiral group, at least one polymerizable group, at least one spacer and at least one mesogenic group, and to their use as polymerizable, chiral dopes for the preparation of cholesteric networks. The novel compounds are suitable for use in electro-optical displays or as chiral dopes for nematic or cholesteric liquid crystals in order to produce layers which reflect in colors.

A coating material and coating process for color coating articles, such as motor vehicle bodies, and coated articles produced therewith. The coating contains a paint vehicle composed of at least one curable liquid-crystal polymer (LCP), the colored appearance of the coating being determined by mesogens of the paint vehicle which exhibit an interference effect, the mesogens automatically aligning themselves substantially perpendicular to the surface of the article during application of the coating material and adopting a chiral-nematic configuration in which they form a helix having a pitch length which can be influenced by heat within a specified temperature range. The liquid-crystal polymers are such that they are not crosslinked by heat and also such that the temperature level at which the pitch length of the helix can be influenced is above the temperature at which the color coated article is used. By heating an applied but uncrosslinked coating to a temperature within the specified range, the color of the coating can be adjusted in situ to obtain a desired interference color effect after the coating has been applied to the article, and the heat-adjusted color effect can thereafter be stabilized by rapid cooling and/or by UV irradiation of the coat. The color-determining substance of the paint vehicle and the essential substance of the paint vehicle itself are identical and form a coherent homogeneous layer of a cured liquid-crystal polymer.
