Examples include a device for providing sheet-format substrate sections from a web-format substrate. The device includes a roll unwinder for inlet-side feeding of the web-format substrate. Two application devices act on the same first side of the web substrate, and are formed by coating units for supplying, to the same first side of the web substrate, a varnish that forms a barrier layer. A drying device is provided between a cross-cutting device and an upstream first coating unit and/or the drying device is provided in the substrate path between the two coating units and the cross-cutting device. The web-format substrate can be cut into sheet-format substrate sections and, at the outlet, the substrate sections can be provided for subsequent processing or output to a delivery unit.

Recess printing units are usable for printing on a substrate and using associated methods for operation. The recess printing units comprise an intaglio printing cylinder, which provides an image-forming pattern of recesses on its circumference; and an inking unit for applying ink to the pattern of recesses that are provided on the intaglio printing cylinder. The inking unit comprises a first inking unit cylinder which has, in a region of its lateral surface, recesses corresponding to the recesses in the intaglio printing cylinder and to which recesses ink can be supplied by an ink application device in the region of an application point lying on the circumference of the first inking unit cylinder. A second inking unit cylinder cooperates with the first inking unit cylinder and has, in a region of the lateral surface of the second inking unit cylinder, elevations corresponding to recesses in the intaglio printing cylinder or raised regions corresponding to regions of the image-forming pattern of recesses on the intaglio printing cylinder, which regions comprise recesses. The ink application device also comprises, on at least a downstream side of the application point, with respect to the operating direction of rotation of the inking unit cylinder comprising the recesses, a retaining device in the form of a doctor blade or an ink knife. The second inking unit cylinder comprises, on a lateral surface thereof, elevations corresponding to engraving on the intaglio printing cylinder.

Multiple printing couples print the unprinted printing substrate in an indirect planographic or in a letterpress printing method in one or more printing nips. A drying device, which extends over the printing width, is provided with a number I(I&#x3b5;, 0&#x3e;1) of drying elements, the influence of which, on a printing unit surface to be treated, allows moisture to be removed from a number of n(n&#x3b5;, n&#x3e;1) axial portions a(j=1, . . . , n) that are offset relative to one another in the direction of the printing width. One of an extent of the influence of the drying device with respect to the axial direction (a) and the operating state of the drying device can be varied independently of one another. The drying elements are designed and arranged in the printing unit such that at least 20% of the width (b), when seen in the direction of the printing width, of multiple or all of the axial portions (a), which are designed as active portions (a) with an active width (b) of the drying elements in the printing unit, over the extension of those portions, overlaps with an adjacent axial portion of the axial portions (a), which are axially offset relative to one another in the direction of the printing unit. A controller and one of a switching and an adjusting device, which are connected to the controller for signaling purposes, are provided. The controller and the one of the switching and adjusting devices are used to operate multiple or all of the drying elements during a stationary active operating state such that each of the drying elements is pulsed, i.e. is individually clocked between an 'off' switching state and an 'on' switching state.

There is described an intaglio printing press (*) comprising a plate cylinder () carrying one or more intaglio printing plates, the plate cylinder () receiving ink from an inking system (*) having a plurality of chablon cylinders (*) transferring ink directly or indirectly onto the plate cylinder (), the intaglio printing press (*) comprising an adjustment system acting on the chablon cylinders (*) in order to compensate elongation of the one or more intaglio printing plates. The adjustment system comprises, for each chablon cylinder (*), an adjustable drive unit, which adjustable drive unit () is interposed between the chablon cylinder (*) acting as a rotating output body of the adjustable drive unit () and a driving gear () acting as a rotating input body of the adjustable drive unit (). The adjustable drive unit () is designed to allow selected adjustment of a rotational speed of the chablon cylinder (*) with respect to a rotational speed of the driving gear (). In an adjusting state of the adjustable drive unit (), driving into rotation of the chablon cylinder (*) is adjusted over each revolution of the chablon cylinder (*) by means of an adjustment motor () of the adjustable drive unit (). In an adjusting state of the adjustable drive unit (), driving into rotation of the wiping roller assembly () is adjusted by means of an adjustment motor () of the adjustable drive unit (). A printing press for security printing has an Orloff offset printing unit comprising a plurality of stencil cylinders which can be inked, in each case, by an associated inking unit, an ink-collecting cylinder which interacts with the plurality of stencil cylinders, an Orloff plate cylinder which interacts with the ink-collecting cylinder, a transfer cylinder which interacts with the Orloff plate cylinder, and an impression cylinder which forms a printing point with the transfer cylinder. At least the transfer cylinder which interacts with the Orloff plate cylinder in the thrown-on position is included by a first printing unit section and is mounted in or on a first part frame. The ink-collecting cylinder is included by a second printing unit section and is mounted in or on a second part frame which is different from the first part frame. The first and the second part frame can be moved optionally into a first relative position with respect to one another, which forms a working position, and into a second relative position with respect to one another which forms a maintenance position. In the maintenance position, a space is formed between the first and the second printing unit section and/or between the first and the second part frame, which space ensures direct access at least to the ink-collecting cylinder, to the Orloff plate cylinder and to the transfer cylinder which interacts with the Orloff plate cylinder. Moreover, the invention relates to a method for changing a printing forme and for starting production.

Rotational bodies of a printing press with at least a first, a second and a third ink-conducting rotational body, which interact with each other in pairs, can be set in a thrown-on position. The second of the at least three rotational bodies can be set both against the first of the three rotational bodies and against the third of the three rotational bodies in order to form a two-sided thrown-on position. Tracking, coupled in a defined way, of the rotational axis of the second rotational body takes place at the same time as a radial positional change of the rotational axis of the first rotational body, by the superimposition of two movements along two non-congruent movement paths which run in a plane which is perpendicular with respect to the rotational axis. There is described an ink wiping system (&#x2033;) of an intaglio printing press comprising a wiping tank () and a rotatable wiping roller assembly (*) supported on and partly located in the wiping tank () for wiping excess ink from the surface of a rotatable intaglio printing cylinder () of the intaglio printing press. The ink wiping system (&#x2033;) comprises a wiping roller retracting device () which forms an integral part of the ink wiping system (&#x2033;) and is adapted to be coupled to the wiping roller assembly (*) to move the wiping roller assembly (*) between a working position (W) where the wiping roller assembly (*) is supported on and partly located in the wiping tank () for cooperation with the intaglio printing cylinder () and a parking position (P) where the wiping roller assembly (*) is retracted out of the wiping tank () and away from the intaglio printing cylinder (). In the working position (W) of the wiping roller assembly (*), the wiping roller retracting device () is coupled to the wiping roller assembly (*). The ink wiping system (&#x2033;) further includes, at the parking position (P), a storage section () adapted to receive the wiping roller assembly (*) which is retracted by the wiping roller retracting device ().
