This specification discloses methods of enhancing the stability and performance of Eudoped narrow band red emitting phosphors. In one embodiment the resulting phosphor compositions are characterized by crystallizing in ordered structure variants of the UCrCcrystal structure type and having a composition of AELiAlSiON:Eu(AE=Ca, Sr, Ba, or a combination thereof, 0<x<0.04, 0≤y<1, 0<z<0.05, y+z≤1). It is believed that the formal substitution (Al,O)by (Si,N)reduces the concentration of unwanted Euand thus enhances properties of the phosphor such as stability and conversion efficiency.

Phosphors, such as new narrow-band red emitting phosphors for solid state lighting

The invention relates to a lighting () device comprising a light source () and a wavelength converting element (), which comprises a phosphor compounded with a polymer. The phosphor contains a metal-ion activator which is excitable via a partially forbidden electronic transition. The phosphor and the polymer being chosen such that the difference in their refractive index is smaller than 0.1. Due to this choice, scattering in the wavelength converting element () remains at minimum. Interesting wavelength converting elements () are obtained when using phosphors comprising specific Mn(IV)-activated fluoride compounds and specific fluorine-containing polymers.

An electroluminescent device includes a substrate and a sandwich consisting of a first electrode, an electroluminescent layer and a second electrode. To improve decoupling of light from the electro-luminescent device, a layer comprising conductive particles adjoins the first or second electrode.
