A method and an emulation device for emulating control and/or regulating functions of a control or regulating unit, in particular of a motor vehicle. For emulation, the functions are swapped out into an external emulation computer, a data circuit is produced before the beginning of the emulation via a software interface of the emulation computer and a software interface of the control/regulating unit. In order to significantly accelerate the development and programming of new control/regulating functions of the control/regulating unit, the software interfaces are configured for the emulation of different control/regulating functions before the beginning of the emulation without changing the software.

A method for triggering an internal combustion engine of a certain type according to a state machine is provided, in which a possible operating state of the engine, which is assigned to a layer n of the state machine, is first set. In an additional layer (n+1), sub-states to the previously determined operating state are specified. For triggering different type engines, the method provides that the state machine has at least two groups of layers, the first group of layers representing operating states that the engine of the certain type has in common with engines of another type, and the second group of layers representing operating states that are specific to the engine of the certain type.

Method, computer program and control unit for operating an internal combustion engine

A method and a device () for consistent bidirectional analysis of engine characteristics map data in an engine characteristics map are described. The engine characteristics map data represents interlinked technical variables. In this method, first a characteristic curve representing the interdependence of two of the technical variables is determined. This characteristic curve forms the basis for additional conversions in bidirectional analysis of the particular engine characteristics map.
