In some examples, a transport cylinder for transporting a sheet-format substrate includes at least one channel extending on an outer surface of the transport cylinder in an axial direction. Each channel includes at least one gripper, which is supported on a shaft, for holding a substrate on the outer surface of the transport cylinder. Each channel is covered by a respective cover at the outer surface of the transport cylinder. The cover and/or a shaft supporting the at least one gripper may include a cooling unit. In some examples, a drying unit that includes the transport cylinder may further include an electron beam for curing a printing fluid on a substrate on the transport cylinder. In some examples, a printing press may include the drying unit including the transport cylinder.

There is described an intaglio printing press (*) comprising a plate cylinder () carrying one or more intaglio printing plates, the plate cylinder () receiving ink from an inking system (*) having a plurality of chablon cylinders (*) transferring ink directly or indirectly onto the plate cylinder (), the intaglio printing press (*) comprising an adjustment system acting on the chablon cylinders (*) in order to compensate elongation of the one or more intaglio printing plates. The adjustment system comprises, for each chablon cylinder (*), an adjustable drive unit, which adjustable drive unit () is interposed between the chablon cylinder (*) acting as a rotating output body of the adjustable drive unit () and a driving gear () acting as a rotating input body of the adjustable drive unit (). The adjustable drive unit () is designed to allow selected adjustment of a rotational speed of the chablon cylinder (*) with respect to a rotational speed of the driving gear (). In an adjusting state of the adjustable drive unit (), driving into rotation of the chablon cylinder (*) is adjusted over each revolution of the chablon cylinder (*) by means of an adjustment motor () of the adjustable drive unit (). In a non-adjusting state of the adjustable drive unit (), the adjustment motor () is inoperative and driving into rotation of the chablon cylinder (*) is performed exclusively mechanically via the adjustable drive unit (), the chablon cylinder (*) rotating at a same rotational speed as the driving gear ().

Intaglio printing press

An ink feed device includes an ink blade, a mounting device for the precise mounting of an ink blade and a system for feeding and dosing printing ink. The system includes an ink feed device and a mounting device. A method is provided for renewing a dosing edge of an ink blade, which edge is used to dose the ink. A method for operating an ink feed device, and including an ink blade, is also provided.

There is described an intaglio printing press (*) comprising an intaglio cylinder () and an ink wiping system () with a rotating wiping roller assembly () contacting a circumference of the intaglio cylinder () for wiping excess ink from the surface of the intaglio cylinder (), a rotational speed of the wiping cylinder being adjustable with respect to a rotational speed of the intaglio cylinder (). The intaglio printing press (*) comprises an adjustable drive unit (), which adjustable drive unit () is interposed between the wiping roller assembly () acting as a rotating output body of the adjustable drive unit () and a driving gear () coupled to the intaglio cylinder () and acting as a rotating input body of the adjustable drive unit (). The adjustable drive unit () is designed to allow selected adjustment of a rotational speed of the wiping roller assembly () with respect to a rotational speed of the driving gear (). In an adjusting state of the adjustable drive unit (), driving into rotation of the wiping roller assembly () is adjusted by means of an adjustment motor () of the adjustable drive unit (). In a non-adjusting state of the adjustable drive unit (), the adjustment motor () is inoperative and driving into rotation of the wiping roller assembly () is performed exclusively mechanically via the adjustable drive unit (), the wiping roller assembly () rotating at a defined rotational speed with respect to the rotational speed of the intaglio cylinder ().

There is described an ink wiping system (&#x2033;) of an intaglio printing press comprising a wiping tank () and a rotatable wiping roller assembly (*) supported on and partly located in the wiping tank () for wiping excess ink from the surface of a rotatable intaglio printing cylinder () of the intaglio printing press. The ink wiping system (&#x2033;) comprises a wiping roller retracting device () which forms an integral part of the ink wiping system (&#x2033;) and is adapted to be coupled to the wiping roller assembly (*) to move the wiping roller assembly (*) between a working position (W) where the wiping roller assembly (*) is supported on and partly located in the wiping tank () for cooperation with the intaglio printing cylinder () and a parking position (P) where the wiping roller assembly (*) is retracted out of the wiping tank () and away from the intaglio printing cylinder (). In the working position (W) of the wiping roller assembly (*), the wiping roller retracting device () is coupled to the wiping roller assembly (*). The ink wiping system (&#x2033;) further includes, at the parking position (P), a storage section () adapted to receive the wiping roller assembly (*) which is retracted by the wiping roller retracting device ().

There is described a printing press () comprising an ink-receiving cylinder () receiving ink from an inking system (---) having a plurality of ink-applying cylinders or rollers () arranged one above the other around part of a circumference of the ink-receiving cylinder (), the ink-applying cylinders or rollers () being inked by a corresponding plurality of inking devices (), the printing press () further comprising an inking carriage () supporting the plurality of inking devices (), which inking carriage () can be moved with respect to the ink-receiving cylinder () between a working position and a retracted position. The at least one selected inking device () amongst the plurality of inking devices () of the inking system (---) is supported onto the inking carriage () via a movable frame (), which movable frame () is supported by the inking carriage () to allow movement of the selected inking device () with respect to the inking carriage () and with respect to a remaining part () of the plurality of inking devices ().

There is described an intaglio printing press comprising a plate cylinder () carrying one or more intaglio printing plates () and an impression cylinder () cooperating with the plate cylinder (), a printing nip being formed between the plate cylinder () and the impression cylinder (). The plate cylinder () and the impression cylinder () each comprise one or more cylinder pits () and a corresponding number of cylinder segments (), the plate cylinder () and the impression cylinder () being in rolling contact with one another during printing operations along their respective cylinder segments () when no cylinder pits () are present at the printing nip. The intaglio printing press further comprises a monitoring system () designed to monitor a rolling condition of the impression cylinder () with respect to the plate cylinder () and to provide an indication as to whether or not the rolling condition corresponds to a desired rolling condition, the desired rolling condition being a rolling condition corresponding to true rolling of the impression cylinder () with respect to the plate cylinder () where no slippage occurs between a circumferential surface of the impression cylinder () and a circumferential surface of the plate cylinder (). Also described is a method of monitoring operation of an intaglio printing press.
