Devices, methods and computer readable mediums storing a program causing a computer to execute a process for interacting with targets on a display, particularly in regards to devices utilizing a multi-touch display that are driven by gestures. The use of such devices, methods, and computer readable mediums storing a program allows the user to interact with devices through the use of multi-touch displays.

Multiple selection on devices with many gestures

A system and method for interacting with a mobile device using an external display is disclosed, where a mobile device provides representations of an object and action to an external display for a user to select and then input back to the mobile device. An application on a mobile device provides representation data of an object and an action to a host system driving an external display. The host system arranges the representation data into a representation on the external display and allows the user to interact with the representations. The user then selects a representation and inputs the selected representation into the mobile device, where the application processes the representation to carry out the appropriate actions on the appropriate objects. The representation may be inputted to the mobile device using a photo of the representation taken by a mobile device camera, or by inputting a code provided with each representation on the external display.

Systems and methods for interacting with mobile devices using external displays

System and method for creating an information-free zone ('hole') in the content displayed in the area of the display where the finger touches it. The content previously displayed in the hole is pushed to the sides around the hole and thereby remains visible. This avoids the occlusion of the content and allows the user to place the cursor on the display accurately.

Finger occlusion avoidance on touch display devices

A system that assures a user that two specific devices have exchanged information correctly over an insecure communication channel. In a typical application, the channel would be a wireless network connection and the information would consist of the public keys of the two devices. The exchanged public keys would subsequently be used to secure any further communication between the two devices. The system requires that both devices have an output modality interpretable by a human. One of the devices must have an input modality that can be operated by the user. The input and output modalities can be very simple e.g., they can consist of a button and LEDs. The users would press the button multiple times. On each press, the LEDs on both devices display a color and the user compares the colors and that they are synchronous. A noticeable delay or color difference signifies a security threat.

System and method for human assisted secure information exchange

One aspect of the invention relates to techniques for increasing the displayable font size while retaining a wide text line of information on small information displays. In one embodiment, the inventive technique leverages the wider diagonal (in device dimensions) for text viewing and combine this form of display with a horizontal (in text dimensions) scrolling feature i.e. scrolling text along the diagonal of the device's display. Vertical context (in text dimensions) is maintained by adding a constant-offset look-ahead and look-back line above the primary diagonal focus area. Another embodiment bends the text along two edges of the display area to leverage the fact that the lengths of the two sides are even longer than the length of the screen diagonal. In both configurations, one can retain a large font size without sacrificing the number of characters displayed per line.

Text-reading support on handheld devices and devices with small displays

A method for enticing users to behave securely in a computing environment. For security related input, such as selection of password, a progress indicator is provided to the user. The progress indicator correlates to the level of security obtained by the user's entry, rather than to the completion of the task. The indicator follows a non-linear function that crosses zero security and maximum expected security for the task. The function starts at shallow slope, increases towards the middle, and then reverts to shallow slop towards the end of the task.

Progress indicators to encourage more secure behaviors

System and method for graphical user authentication using compact collages of regions of images. Image corpus is constructed by selecting similar quality images and filtering to further homogenize image quality. Regions are detected within the images and scored according to similarity and neighborhood information. Regions with lower scores provide less information about other regions and are more secure secrets. During enrollment, user selects secret images; decoy images are chosen by the system accordingly. Regions from secret images are selected as secrets according to the scoring of regions and regions from decoy images are selected as decoys. A collage is formed with secrets and decoys. Compact rendering enhances security and is suitable for small displays of mobile devices. Several rounds of challenge, requiring identification of secrets, are presented to the user. User is authenticated if a certain number of correct identifications of secrets within a number of rounds are achieved.
