A synergistic preservative composition comprises sorbic acid or a salt thereof, benzyl alcohol, and a mixture of (i) 1,2-propanediol and/or 1,3-propanediol, and (ii), 4-butanediol and/or 1,3-butanediol. The composition is particularly suited for the preservation of cosmetics and personal care products.

Virucidal disinfectant

Disinfectant compositions, containing (a) at least one amine and/or quaternary ammonium salt of the general formula (Ia) or (Ib):wherein Rrepresents Calkyl, Rrepresents benzyl or Calkyl, Rrepresents Calkyl or &#x2014;[CH)&#x2014;O]R, where n=1-20, Rand Rindependently of one another represent Calkyl, Rrepresents hydrogen or optionally substituted phenyl and Ais a monovalent anion or the equivalent of a multivalent anion of an inorganic or organic acid; and (b) at least one alkanolamine of the general formula (II):wherein m and, if present, o and p independently of one another have the values 2 or 3 and x and y independently of one another have the values 0 or 1, or a corresponding salt. The mass ratio of the components in the formulas (I):(II) is between 20:1 and 1:20. The compositions are characterized by an excellent bactericidal and in particular fungicidal action even in small application concentrations and are suitable for use as both disinfectants and preservative agents.

Disinfectant

Disinfectants having N,N-bis(3-aminopropyl)octlyamine as the active substance. The disinfectants are characterized by good activity also against mycobacteria, low efficiency loss under protein load and little foaming. The disinfectants are particularly useful for disinfecting surfaces, containers and pipelines, for instance, in the food industry, and for disinfecting instruments, especially automatic instrument disinfection at low temperatures.
