A cylinder housing for a reciprocating-piston internal combustion engine, in particular of a motor vehicle, includes a first cylinder which is delimited by a first cylinder barrel and a second cylinder which is delimited by a second cylinder barrel. The cylinders differ from one another with respect to their respective inner contour formed by the respective cylinder barrels.

An engine block for an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle has a cylinder within which a piston can be movably accommodated between a top dead center and a bottom dead center and has a cylinder bore, the internal cylinder diameter of which expands in the direction of the bottom dead center. The internal cylinder diameter expands only below the region in which a piston system change takes place during operation of the internal combustion engine. The internal cylinder diameter tapers from the top dead center to the region.

The invention relates to the surfaces of the polygon () and/or the plunger foot plate () of a high-pressure pump for a diesel motor, at least one of the surfaces having cavities at least in the contact area between the polygon () and the plunger foot plate (). According to the invention the face of the plunger foot plate () lying opposite the polygon () is concave, at least in the load-free state and the cavities have a depth of between 5 and 50 &#x3bc;m, a width of between 30 and 100 &#x3bc;m and a length of at least 100 &#x3bc;m, or a diameter ranging between 30 and 100 &#x3bc;m. The edges of the cavities are rounded. The invention also relates to a method for producing said surfaces, according to which the cavities are first created in the surface by means of chemical etching, blasting using blasting agents or by means of a laser removal process, the surface is subsequently polished in a vibratory grinding process and the edges of the cavities are rounded.
