One or more aspects of the present invention relate to a computer-implemented method for part analytics, in particular for analyzing the quality, the machining process and preferably the engineering process, of a workpiece machined by at least one CNC machine. According to these aspects, the method may include providing a digital machine model of the CNC machine with realtime and non-realtime process data of the at least one CNC machine, the realtime and non-realtime process data being recorded during the machining process of the workpiece under consideration; and subsequently simulating the machining process under consideration by means of the digital machine model based at least partially on the recorded realtime and non-realtime process data.

A host system generates and manages databases incorporating data gathered from a plurality of client automation systems, such as CNC machine tools. The data may include real-time data, and is captured from the client systems under supervision of software downloaded over a network from the host system to the client systems. The captured data is transmitted over the network to the host, which creates the databases. The databases preferably include a commercial database comprising data associated with customer owners or operators of the client automation system, as well as a technical database, comprising captured data, administrative and other data, organized by customer and client system. Captured data is preferably associated with the date of capture, providing for the creation of a historical database for given client equipment. With customer authorization, others, such as original equipment manufacturers, may access the captured data, for which they may be charged a fee.

There is described a method for operating an industrial machine, the latter being e.g. a processing machine, a production machine or a manipulation robot. At least part of the operation of the industrial machine is simulated with the aid of a simulation model and the simulated results and real-time data from the operation of the industrial machine are stored. The simulation can be carried out in the industrial machine and if this is the case a parametric representation of the simulation model can be at least partly produced using a unit for this purpose.
