A method is provided for controlling a solenoid actuated fuel injector having a solenoid actuator which moves a pintle and needle arrangement such that the needle moves away from a valve seat to an open position and also includes circuitry which applies chopped hysteresis control subsequent to an energisation phase. The method includes a) obtaining a signal of the current or voltage across the solenoid; b) analyzing the voltage or current to detect a chopped hysteresis pulse; c) determining the time point of the end of said chopped hysteresis pulse; and d) applying a braking pulse to the solenoid, the timing of which is dependent on the results of step c).

Method of controlling a fuel injector

An ignition system for an internal combustion engine includes an ignition transformer with two primary windings. The ignition system is designed to generate, for a given ignition event, a unipolar current through the secondary winding by way of a control circuit that is configured to first energize and deenergize the first primary winding to establish a first electrical arc across the spark-plug electrodes and, when the current in the secondary winding reaches, or drops below, a current threshold, repeatedly energizes and deenergizes the second primary winding to establish a plurality of second current pulses across the electrodes in order to maintain the burn phase.

Ignition system

A resonator assembly is described having a longitudinal axis and generator section, an inductance section, a capacitance section, and an ignition section arranged in sections in a common housing along the longitudinal axis. The housing surrounds all the above-mentioned sections and has an opening in the region of the ignition section, and the housing is made of an electrically conductive material or has at least one conductive surface. An electrical series circuit comprising an inductance section and capacitance section constitutes electrically an oscillatable dipole to which the housing acts as a return conductor.

Resonator assembly

A system for the monitoring of the state of a battery used in a vehicle and to which electrical elements comprising at least one electrical consumer and/or at least one electrical generator are connected comprises means for the detection of the battery voltage, means for the extraction of voltage frequency components from the detected battery voltage at different frequencies, means for the detection of the current flowing out of or into the battery, means for the extraction of current frequency components from the detected battery current at the same frequencies at which the voltage frequency components were extracted, means for the determination of internal impedances of the battery from the voltage frequency components and current frequency components extracted at a respective frequency, means for the storage of predetermined relationships between the internal impedance and the battery state for each of the respective frequencies and means for the determination of the battery state from the determined internal impedances and the predetermined relationships. In this connection, means are provided for the monitoring of the state of at least some of the electrical elements as well as means in order to select the time for a respective voltage and current detection in dependence on the detected state of the electrical elements and/or to fix the conditions for a respective voltage and current detection.
