In a method and apparatus for length measurement of a flat good in a goods processing system having first and second stations, each having a sensor in the transport direction of the flat good, a control processor implements a path control and counts encoder pulses of an encoder in the first station. An event is determined by the sensor of the second station, and an associated numerical value Z1 of the encoder pulses is stored in the control processor, as is a numerical value Z2 for a distance between the two sensors is also stored. An additional event is determined by the sensor of the first station, and an associated numerical value Z3 of the encoder pulses is stored. As soon as both events are present, Z2 and the difference &#x394;=Z3&#x2212;Z1 are added by the control processor, and the sum is used to designate the length.

Method for length measurement of a flat good in a goods processing system, and arrangement for implementation of the method

In a dynamic scale for flat goods on their sides, and a control method therefor, flat goods are transported with a continuous counting of encoder pulses, and a weight measurement of a moving flat good is started when the trailing edge of the flat good has reached a first sensor. A first count state of the counter is stored when the leading edge of the flat good reaches a second sensor but a valid weight measurement result is not present. A weight measurement takes place with a transport velocity reduced in steps. After a step-down of the transport velocity of the flat good a subsequent weight measurement is performed with a next lowest transport velocity, and the current counter state is then queried if neither a valid weight measurement result exists, nor can it be established that the trailing edge of the flat good has reached the first sensor, although the leading edge of that flat good has reached the second sensor, as well as a check shows the current counter state corresponds to the sum of the stored counter state and a predetermined count value. The querying steps after the check are repeated as long as the current counter state has not yet reached the sum, and with an additional step-down of the transport velocity of the flat good and weight measurement result, until the check shows the current counter state has reached the sum.

Dynamic scale for flat goods transported on their sides, and method for control thereof

In a processing apparatus, with an inkjet print head, that processes individual items, a drive motor that operates a transport mechanism to transport the individual items in the x-direction of a Cartesian coordinate system past the inkjet print head in a printing position so as to execute a printing operation with the inkjet print head on each individual item. The drive motor arrangement also moves the inkjet print head in the y-direction into a first position that is any of an exchange position, the printing position, a cleaning position or a sealing position. The drive motor arrangement also moves the inkjet print head vertically, in the z-direction of the exchange position or the sealing position, into at least one other position that is either the printing position or the cleaning position.

Processing apparatus for individual items, having an inkjet print head, and an activation method therefor

In a dynamic scale and a weighing method therefor, an object to be weighed is received on a weighing unit of the dynamic scale and weight information of the object on the weighing unit is detected by the weighing unit. The weight information includes a number of items of weight information, which are supplied to a processor, and a derived weight value is determined in the processor by evaluation of a predetermined number of the items of weight information, and a quality value for the derived weight value is also determined in the processor by evaluation of the predetermined number of items of weight information. Depending on the quality value, it is established, in the processor, that the derived weight value is a valid weight value and, when it is established that the derived weight value is a valid weight value, the weighing unit is then fed with a new object.

A feed station feeds a flow of items along a transport path, in which a path, a path point Wis orthogonal to the position of a first transport roller, a path point Wis orthogonal to the position of a sensor, and a path point Wis orthogonal to a second transport roller. A distance between Wand Wis smaller than the minimum length of the flat items and is greater than or equal to a distance between Wand a path end point Wend. A distance between Wend and an intake point W-Wend of the subsequent goods processing apparatus is much smaller than the W-Wend distance. A transport velocity distance between the separated flat items at the start of the transport path is controlled to a minimum distance and is always the same size when the items leave the feed station.

A method and apparatus for data input into a service device allow a loading and updating of service data, particularly postage fee schedule tables, separated from one another in time. The method and apparatus are suitable for postage meter machines as well as for scales containing postage computers or similar devices. After detecting the input and storage of a load requirement, a check for the presence of a load instruction, formation of a status report of the memory occupancy for service data and a transmission of the status report to the data center ensue. The data center forms recommendations for a future status of the memory occupancy in the service device on the basis of an analysis of the status report of the memory occupancy for service data that is implemented in the data center. The data center transmits the recommendations to the service device that, after evaluation thereof, sends corresponding request data before the actual loading.

Method for data input into a service device and arrangement for the implementation of the method

An arrangement and a method for modifying the functionality of a security module employ a start loading program stored in a FLASH program memory for reprogramming the FLASH program memory by copying a portion of the start loading program into a main memory of the security module. Data of at least a part of an application program, an appertaining certificate code and identifier data are offered in the communication interface of the security module. The data of the part of the application program are stored on a free memory location of the FLASH program memory when the identifier data characterize a successor status for the stored status. The authenticity of the loaded part of the application program is checked with the certificate code, and given authenticity of the loaded part of the application program, it is stored as valid.
