A plunger mechanism which has a one piece housing into which is inserted the upper sealing member. The upper sealing member is secured to the interior wall of the housing at its desired location.

Plunger mechanism for I.S. machine

A deadplate assembly for a section of an I.S. machine. The assembly includes a deadplate table onto which bottles made in the section will be periodically placed for cooling. A plenum having an annular top portion is located beneath the deadplate table and this annular top portion has an inner annular sealing surface. An annular seal is secured to the bottom surface of the deadplate table to establish a seal with the plenum. The deadplate table is supported on compressed springs supported by the plenum so that the vertical location of the deadplate table can be adjusted with the screws.

An adapter for use in securing a plunger assembly to a screw threaded upper end portion of a piston rod in a parison forming mechanism in a glassware forming machine has a sleeve with a wall portion which is provided with a strip supported only at spaced end portions thereof formed by two segmental slots in the wall portion and screw device for deflecting the strip to lock the adapter in position.

A take out device for a multi gob glassware forming machine comprises at least two take out tongs and adjusting means to alter the spacing of the tongs as the take out device moves from its pick up position to its deposit position. The adjusting means comprises a gear segment which is caused to rotate as the take out arm moves and, through a link, causes appropriate movement of a tong.

The fingers (20,22,24) of a push out device are constructed so that the spacing between then is adjustable between that appropriate to the spacing of containers on the dead plate (4) to that appropriate to a desired spacing of the containers on a conveyor.

The air lines for a plunger mechanism are permanently secured to a mainfold which is secured to the bottom of the section frame. To complete the air delivery system removable upper manifold having downwardly extending air tubes in interconnected with a lower manifold having elongated upwardly extending air passages. The upper removable manifold is releasable secured to the fixed upper manifold and the lower manifold is secured to the base plate which supports the plunger mechanism by a tool which extends through holes in the quik plate, section frame and removable upper manifold.

A plunger mechanism for use in forming a gob of molten glass into a parison comprises a cylinder (30), a piston (32) movable in the cylinder upon the introduction of hydraulic fluid, a piston rod (34), means (40) for mounting a plunger on the piston rod, a servo-mechanism (58) to control the flow of fluid, a position or velocity feedback device (60), and control means (70) responsive to the feedback device operable to control the servo-mechanism so that the plunger moves with a predetermined position against time curve.

Forming a gob of molten glass into a parison

The plunger mechanism is for use in moving a plunger into or out of a mould cavity and has a piston movable in a cylinder with a piston rod projecting from the piston. A plunger can be mounted on the piston rod. A passage passes through the piston and the piston rod and communicates with a chamber in the plunger or with the mould cavity. A tube which can be connected to a source of air under pressure or to a vacuum source passes through the cylinder and enters the passage. The gap between the passage and the tube is sealed by an inwardly-contracting ring with an overlapping joint which makes sealing contact around the tube. A ring of resilient material may encircle the inwardly-contracting ring to seal the gap between the inwardly-contracting ring and the wall of a recess in which it is mounted.

Plunger mechanism for use in a glassware forming machine

The plunger comprises a base portion adapted to be mounted on a piston rod and a tip portion which has a glass-engaging surface and a projection which enters a recess in the base portion. A generally cylindrical passage is defined by the base portion and the projection of the tip portion, the portion of the wall of the passage defined by the base portion being screw-threaded. A screw-threaded member is threadedly received in the passage and serves to retain the tip portion on the base portion by engaging a lip of the projection which projects across a portion of the passage.
