A planar inverted F antenna having a radiating patch and a carrier is described. The radiating patch includes a blank, a first connector and a second connector. The first connector is formed from the blank material and provides a cutout region within the periphery of the radiating patch.

Planar inverted F antenna and method of making the same

A Planar Inverted F Antenna (PIFA) and a radio module integrated into a single module. The present invention permits the PIFA to be removably secured on the top of a radio chip module. In one embodiment of the invention, a non-conductive antenna frame is removably secured to a radio chip. A radiating element or 'patch' is then secured to the top of the frame. The patch has feed and shorting pins connected thereto. The integrated radio/antenna system can be mounted on a PCB using standard surface-mount techniques and the feed and shorting pins can be soldered to the PCB. In another embodiment of the invention, a cover is removably secured to the frame to retain the patch on the frame. The cover has a window to permit the feed and shorting pins to be soldered to the PCB.

Integral antenna and radio system

The present invention provides a dual band single center feed dipole antenna by providing a conventional half-wave dipole antenna single band dipole antenna and loading the single band dipole antenna with two open circuit stubs or arms. The two open circuit stubs form a second half-wave dipole that resonates at a second frequency.

Dual band single feed dipole antenna and method of making the same

A three-band, two-antenna, assembly includes a planar inverted-F antenna (PIFA) having a radiating/receiving element that is spaced from and extends generally parallel to a ground plane element. The planar radiating/receiving element of an inverted-F antenna (IFA) is located in an open space that exists between the radiating/receiving element of the PIFA and the ground plane element. The radiating/receiving element of the IFA extends either perpendicular to, or parallel to, the radiating/receiving element of the PIFA. The radiating/receiving element of the PIFA includes one or more open slot configurations that operate to provide dual resonant frequencies for the IPFA (AMPS/PCS or GSM/DCS). The radiating/receiving element of the IFA operates in a non-cellular frequency band (ISM or GPS).

Dual feel multi-band planar antenna

A Planar Inverted F Antenna (PIFA) and a radio module integrated into a single module. The present invention permits the PIFA to be removably secured on the top of a radio chip module. In one embodiment of the invention, a dielectric antenna frame is removably secured to a radio chip. A radiating element or &ldquo;patch&rdquo; is then secured to the top of the frame. The patch has feed and shorting pins connected thereto. The integrated radio/antenna system can be mounted on a PCB using standard surface-mount techniques and the feed and shorting pins can be soldered to the PCB. In another embodiment of the invention, a cover is removably secured to the frame to retain the patch on the frame. The cover has a window to permit the feed and shorting pins to be soldered to the PCB.

A surface mounted CHIP antenna is provided for a wireless communications device such as a wireless modem, cellular telephone, personal digital assistant, etc. The antenna is mounted directly to the circuit board of the unit and exhibits electrical performance equivalent to a traditional external antenna. The antenna includes a conductive trace which is embedded or encapsulated in a high temperature, non-conductive dielectric material. One end of the trace has a transceiver circuit lead protruding therefrom which is soldered to the feed of the transceiver circuit. One or more ground plane leads protrude from the other end of the body member and are soldered to the ground plane. The ground plane lead is electrically insulated from the trace.

Surface mount CHIP antenna

A dual feed internal antenna is disclosed which provides an internal antenna with multiple frequency response through the use of two or more internal antennas within one package. Each internal antenna has its own feed and ground connection. For example, a planar inverted F antenna provides response at cellular telephone frequencies and an inverted F antenna provides response at Industrial, Scientific, and Medical (ISM) band of frequencies.

Dual feed internal antenna

A tunable PIFA antenna is disclosed for use with wireless communication devices. In three embodiments of the invention, a movable tuning member constructed of a high-dielectric constant material is selectively moved with respect to the feed and shorting pins of the antenna to vary the frequency response of the antenna. In the fourth embodiment, a slot is molded into the frame of the antenna. The size and position of the slot is varied by the molding tool to vary the frequency response of the antenna.
