Tracer gas sensing device comprising a gas discharge cell having cell walls defining a discharge volume and a tracer gas inlet into the discharge volume, an optical spectrometer arrangement having a radiation source on a first side of the discharge cell for emitting radiation into the discharge cell and a radiation detector on a second side of the discharge cell opposite to the first side for detecting radiation which was emitted by the radiation source through the discharge volume, and electrodes on opposing sides of the discharge cell for generating a plasma within the discharge cell, said electrodes being unexposed plasma electrodes. The discharge cell may be a dielectric barrier discharge cell and the electrodes may be powered by an AC power source.

Optical detection of tracer gases in a gas discharge cell having unexposed electrodes

The leak detection device comprises a plurality of measuring cells () in whose interior the absorption of a laser beam () is influenced by the presence of tracer gas. All of said measuring cells () are connected to a host unit () via light-conducting fibers (). In the host unit (), a laser () designed for modulation and a photodetector () are arranged. Modulation of the laser radiation is preferably performed by two-tone frequency modulation. This has the effect that the fiber length cannot significantly skew the result of the measurement.

A leak detector comprises a cell provided with a tracer gas inlet preferably permeable to a tracer gas. In the cell, the tracer gas is caused to assume an energetically higher metastable state. By means of laser spectroscopy the absorption spectrum of the metastable tracer gas is sampled in an optical measuring section, whereby the presence of tracer gas is detected.

For leak testing, a tracer gas is advanced to the outer wall () of the hollow test object () while the test object () is in an evacuated state. The tracer gas is discharged from a blower device () in the form of soap bubbles (). When contacting the outer wall (), the soap bubbles will burst, thus forming a cloud () of tracer gas immediately on the outer wall (). By the invention, it is made easier to localize the invisible tracer gas in the ambient air. Further, the tracer gas can be used more effectively so that the costs for performing the testing process are reduced.

Method for performing a leak test on a test object

In a multilayer recordable optical medium, each recording layer includes a luminophore that fluoresces under reading laser light and a quencher capable of quenching the luminophore fluorescence. Initially, the luminophore and the quencher are not intermixed, so that the default state of the luminophore is fluorescent. During writing, focused writing radiation heats a spot in the medium so as to cause the luminophore and the quencher to be intermixed, thereby quenching the fluorescence.

The present invention is an improved method and apparatus for replicating various types of optical discs such as CDs and DVDs. The apparatus includes a support plate attached to a rotatable shaft. The support plate has a top surface for supporting a stamper, ultraviolet (&ldquo;UV&rdquo;) curable resin, and a support substrate. The UV curable resin forming the information layer on the support substrate of the optical disc. In the method, the stamper is placed on top of the support plate, and UV curable resin is applied to the top of the stamper having information containing data pits formed therein. The support substrate is placed on top of the stamper with the UV curable resin sandwiched in-between. The apparatus is rotated to spread the resin onto both surfaces of the support substrate and stamper. The joined surfaces of the support substrate and stamper are exposed to UV radiation. The newly formed optical disc is removed from the apparatus and comprises a support substrate and an information layer, with the information layer containing data pits precisely replicated from the data pits of the stamper.

A cross flow system for metalizing compact discs, capable of being interposed in-line in the production of the compact discs after premastering, mastering, electro-forming, and molding includes a vacuum chamber having diametrically opposed vacuum locks and multiple metalization sources in the form of magnetrons, with a preferred cross flow including the introduction of a disc to be metalized through one lock and the exit of the metalized disc through the diametrically opposite lock. The double vacuum lock diametrically opposed cross flow system eliminates the problems of throughput limitations, high rate deposition, substrate pitting, and software complexity due to indexing which makes prior systems both costly and inefficient. The system also permits processing of more than one substrate or compact disc title such that multiple titled compact discs can be processed simultaneously.

Cross flow metalizing of compact discs

A system and method for electro-forming a metal layer on a substrate. The system has a rotary jet planarizer in an electro-forming or galvanic cell. The cell includes a toroidally-shaped manifold with two inlets and an outlet. Each of the inlets is coupled to tubing from a sump assembly. Pressurized electrolyte flows from the sump assembly to the manifold. Directly downstream from the manifold is a diffuser having a plurality of openings. Electrolyte flows through the diffuser to an toroidally-shaped anode basket filled with metal pellets. After flowing through the anode basket, the electrolyte flows to a rotary jet planarizer. The planarizer has a rotatable plate with a main opening, a plurality of apertures radially extending from the main opening, and a conduit that is coupled to the main opening and extends out of the cell. A motor is coupled to the rotary jet planarizer to rotate the plate. The rotating plate directs the electrolyte to a cathode assembly in multiple streams so that the electrolyte washes evenly over a wide, ring-shaped area of a glass master held in a cathode assembly. A layer of metal is galvanically deposited on the glass master. Flow of electrolyte in the cell may follow one of two patterns: a radial pattern or a central pattern. Electrolyte may flow through two returns positioned adjacent to the rotary jet planarizer, one on each side of the cell or through the conduit coupled to the main opening in the plate. The two returns and conduit are coupled to the sump assembly, where the electrolyte is filtered and then pumped back to the cell.

System for forming nickel stampers utilized in optical disc production

A digital versatile disc ('DVD') for storing digital or digitized information that includes two sub-discs. Each sub disc has an outer peripheral edge, a top surface, a bottom surface, and a bore having a second peripheral edge. The two sub-discs are bonded together by a layer of dry film adhesive which is in contact with the bottom surface of the first sub disc and the top surface of the second sub-disc. The layer of dry film adhesive is spaced a distance from the second peripheral edges of the bores of the sub-discs. A weld located along the peripheral edges of the bores of the sub-discs provides bonding and structural support to the DVD. A hub or central area which is substantially free of any dry film adhesive is located between the weld and the layer of dry film adhesive. The use of a dry film adhesive to bond the component parts of the DVD eliminates many of the deficiencies of hot-melt and UV-curable adhesive bonding methods, particularly the problem of entrapping in the adhesive.

A lid is also provided in this spin coating apparatus which at least partially covers the spinning bowl for diminishing the escape for fumes into the ambient atmosphere during the spin coating of a substrate carried by the substrate carrier. The lid is also designed for improving the air flow around the substrate carried by the substrate carrier during the spin coating of the substrate.
