An apparatus to attract predatory animals is described. The apparatus includes an end-effector that includes an elastic member with non-homogenous elastic properties. The apparatus further includes a fixture attached to a proximal end of the elastic member. In addition, the apparatus includes an actuator attached to the fixture generates a transversal wave excitation. The transversal wave excitation propagates from the proximal end of the elastic member to a distal end of the elastic member.

Method and circuit for compensating pixel drift in active matrix displays

A method for sensing an optical image and producing an improved image signal, includes the steps of: supplying a first signal to a first plurality of nodes, the nodes residing in an integrated circuit substrate; producing a second signal at a second plurality of nodes residing in the integrated circuit substrate, the first plurality of nodes substantially corresponding to the second plurality of nodes, wherein the step of producing the second signal includes: imposing a smoothness constraint on the second signal restricting a signal difference between the nodes of the second signal, the smoothness constraint imposed with a plurality of horizontal electronic element; imposing a closeness constraint on the second signal, thereby restricting a signal difference between the corresponding nodes in the first signal and the second signal, the closeness constraint imposed with a plurality of vertical electronic element; and balancing the smoothness constraint and the closeness constraint with a balancing means controlling the vertical electronic elements, the horizontal electronic elements, or both the vertical and the horizontal elements, the balancing means controlled by at least a portion of the first signal.

Method for improving digital images and an image sensor for sensing the same

The present invention provides an image processing method. In one embodiment, the method provides discontinuity-preserving image smoothing and segmentation, noise reduction, reduction of image variations particularly those variations caused by illumination conditions, exposure compensation, and dynamic range compression. The present invention also provides an electronic image sensor that is able to detect high dynamic range optical images and produce electronic images with reduced dynamic range.

A method of encoding identity of events comprises: receiving an event bit pattern having bits representative of events, and determining a code from the event bit pattern, said code containing the information for recovering identity of events when one or more events are simultaneously present in the event bit pattern.

Method for determining identity of simultaneous events and applications to image sensing and A/D conversion

A method of range imaging a scene includes directing a planar light beam onto a first portion of the scene, receiving a first reflected light stripe from that portion of the light beam on a row of sensors which emit responsive electrical signals. The first electrical signals are employed to create a salient feature containing saliency map with the salient feature being spatially related to the reflected light stripe. The light is subjected to sweeping to progressively create a plurality of light beams and reflected stripes leading to corresponding electrical output signals. This is repeated a plurality of times to establish the range image. In a preferred embodiment, a linear array of sensors has a winner-take-all circuit which selects a salient feature and employs that along with angle and time information to create an element of the image with repetition of the method generating the full range image. The light is preferably laser light and the sweeping action is preferably continuous through a plurality of cycles. Corresponding apparatus is provided.

Method and apparatus for rapid range imaging

A circuit and method for computations on large groups of input operands is disclosed. More specifically, the present invention is related to focal plane processing. The method of the present invention performs parallel data computation exemplified by a low latency global characterization of the input operands and the sorting of the input operands. The circuit of the present invention is comprised of a cellular matrix which is comprised of a plurality of cells upon which the input operands are introduced. All the cells are simultaneously placed into the active state by a reset means. The duration of the active state in each of the cell is determined as a monotonic function of the magnitude of the input operand received by the cell after which the cell enters the idle state. Each cell generates an event for signaling to the outside of the cell at the instant the active state ends and the idle state begins. Any two cells receiving input radiation of different magnitudes generate events at different times. A global processing means receives the events from the cellular matrix and continuously produces a count indicating the number of the cells that are simultaneously in the active state, or alternatively in the idle state. Such a count is a temporal representation providing a detailed description a cumulative histogram of the input operands. With a memory means associated with each of the cells, this count can be sampled and stored at the instant when the associated cell generates the event. Such a stored memory content is an evolving histogram--equalized representation of the input operands and is result of sorting input operands.
