A laser jammer configured for being a part of a countermeasure system. The system comprises a stage having an axis of rotation and laser source mounted on the stage. The laser source is configured for emitting a laser beam having an optical axis perpendicular to the axis of rotation. The laser has a first spread in a first plane parallel to the rotation axis of the stage and including the optical axis, and a second spread in a second plane perpendicular to the first plane and including the optical axis. The first spread is greater than the second spread.

Countermeasure system

A countermeasure system for protecting a target against a threat comprising a sensing system including a first sensor(s) for detecting a threat within a wide-angle sector and producing a first directional signal indicative of a first angular zone of the threat location, and a second sensor(s) for detecting the threat within a narrow-angle sector narrower than the wide angle sector and for producing a second directional signal indicative of a relatively narrower second angular zone of the threat location; an illumination source for emitting a beam for neutralizing a threat; a controller for receiving signals from the sensors and for outputting tracking signals; a drive arrangement for moving the second sensor responsive to the first tracking signal to orient the second sensor to face towards the first zone, and beam directing means for directing the beam from the illumination source towards the second zone based on the second tracking signal.

A novel laser obstacle warning and ranging system, for detecting hard-to-see long and thin obstacles in particular, comprises a fiber laser including a signal diode, a circulator, an erbium doped fiber, a wavelength division multiplexer, a narrow band reflector, a first fiber pump diode, an input combiner, an erbium-ytterbium co-doped fiber, a second fiber pump diode, an output combiner and a third fiber pump diode.

Laser obstacle ranging and display

A DIRCM (Direct IR Counter Measures) system includes a detection and warning apparatus for detecting a missile that might pose a threat on the platform to which said system is allocated, and for generating a warning of its existence. The warning may include data that enable the calculation of the expected direction from which the missile is approaching. The DIRCM system may also include an acquisition device for performing acquisition of the approaching missile in accordance with the data provided by the detection and warning apparatus, and issuing data that may enable the calculation in real time of the updated position of the missile, a fiber laser for generating a laser beam, and a motion and aiming enabled turret, coupled with the laser, for directing the laser beam onto the approaching missile. The laser beam may be generated in accordance with the missile's updated position as calculated based on data received from the acquisition device, and processing means, linked to the detection and warning apparatus and also to the acquisition device, the laser and the turret.

Fiber laser based directional infrared countermeasure (DIRCM) system

A scanning system, including a main housing, and at least one optical wedge () rotatable about a shaft means () located within the main housing (), wherein a laser beam having an optical axis and incident on the optical wedge (), is refracted at least once by the wedge; characterized in that the shaft means () passes through the center of the at least one wedge () and that the optical axis of the incident laser beam is substantially parallel to, but laterally offset from, the shaft means ().

Rotary wedge scanner

A glass-ceramic material, particularly for elements in laser systems, and a method for preparing same. The glass-ceramic material may be used for an optical fiber for communication systems and laser systems. The glass-ceramic may include gahnite crystals and optionally &#x3b2;-quartz-like solid solution, or a petalite-like crystals, spinel, and zirconia crystals. The elements may comprise a host material glass-ceramic, where the glass-ceramic is doped with appropriate ions.

Glass ceramics for laser systems

A passive Q-switch for a laser system, and a method for its production. The laser is operative at near infrared wavelength region, including the eye-safe region. The Q-switch includes a saturable absorber based on IV-VI semiconductor nanocrystals (NCs), embedded in a polymer matrix. The NCs preferably include lead selenide, lead sulfide, or lead selenide sulfide. The NCs may be surface passivated, and may feature a PbSe/PbS core-shell configuration.

Passive Q-switch laser

A method and apparatus for reading in a three-dimensional information carrier are presented. The three-dimensional information carrier is formed with a plurality of spaced-apart data regions, each surrounded by surrounding-regions. The data regions are made of a material capable of generating an output excited radiation, when interacting with a predetermined incident exciting radiation, while the surrounding regions are substantially optically transparent. The apparatus comprises an illumination unit, a light directing unit and a detector unit. The illumination unit produces a scanning beam of the incident radiation. The light directing unit projects the incident radiation onto a scan region located in an addressed plane inside the carrier and collects the output radiation. The light directing unit is capable of picking up a predetermined portion of the collected output radiation, so as to provide spatial separation of the output radiation components produced by the data regions located in the addressed plane and the output radiation components produced by the data regions located at any other location inside the carrier.

A laser apparatus of the end pumping kind in which an elongated transparent laser element is mounted in spaced relationship within a tubular waveguide which has a highly reflective inner surface. The arrangement is such that, at least along part of the laser element, the optical distances between different points on the surface of the laser element and the inner contour of the waveguide vary.

Optically pumped laser apparatus

The disclosure concerns various improvements in a solar energy plant of the kind in which incoming solar radiation is concentrated by a Fresnel reflector, i.e. a field of concentrating mirrors, and the concentrated radiation is focused into a solar receiver. By one improvement a dielectric mirror is provided at a suitable level above the solar collector, to reflect the concentrated solar radiation into the collector. By another disclosed improvement a plurality of non-imaging secondary concentrators arranged in concentric zones is provided intermediary between the dielectric mirror and receiver. By yet another improvement the solar receiver is directly attached to a heat storage system.
