The subject of this invention is a laterally unconstrained magnetic joint and application of said joint in tip-tilt and piston-tip-tilt optical mounts. The laterally unconstrained magnetic joint in its basic embodiment comprises two interfacing parts: one having a flat surface interfacing a convex surface of the other, wherein one or both parts are made from permanent magnets that are magnetized along the axis of the joint, and the other of the said parts is made from a ferromagnetic material thus creating magnetic force attraction between the two parts. The resulting lack of lateral mechanical constraint between the two parts of the joint is utilized in tip-tilt mounts by decoupling an adjustor and/or actuator from the payload resulting in a simple, uniform design, while magnetic force provides retention sufficient for a wide variety of applications.

A gun sight for use with a weapon configured for super elevation is disclosed herein. The gun sight includes, but is not limited to, an imaging system that is configured for rotation. The gun sight further includes a drive mechanism that associated with the imaging system and that is configured to rotate the imaging system. The gun sight further includes a gyroscope associated with one of the weapon and the imaging system. The gun sight still further includes a processor that is communicatively coupled with the drive mechanism and the gyroscope. A gun sight for use with a weapon configured for super elevation is disclosed herein. The gun sight includes, but is not limited to, an imaging system that is configured for rotation. The gun sight further includes an inclinometer associated with one of the weapon and the imaging system. The gun sight still further includes a processor that is communicatively coupled with the drive mechanism and the inclinometer. The processor is configured to control the drive mechanism to rotate the imaging system in a manner that causes the imaging system to maintain an initial angular orientation based on information provided by the inclinometer when the weapon is superelevated.

A gun sight is disclosed herein for use with a weapon configured for superelevation. The gun sight includes, but is not limited to, an imaging system configured to capture an image of an area down range of the imaging system, to display the image on a display unit having a display, and further configured to rotate in elevation. The gun sight further includes, but is not limited to, a drive mechanism configured to rotate the imaging system. The gun sight still further includes, but is not limited to, a processor communicatively coupled with the drive mechanism and with the imaging system, the processor configured to receive information from the imaging system relating to the image and to control the drive mechanism based on the information to rotate the imaging system in a manner that causes the image to remain on the display when the weapon is superelevated.

In accordance with one embodiment of the present disclosure, a system comprises a projection system. The system further includes an image generator disposed in the projection system. The image generator is operable to generate a plurality of rays. The system further includes an objective lens disposed in the projection system. The objective lens is operable to refract the plurality of rays. The system further includes a component operable to reflect the refracted rays onto a target in order to form an image. The image is operable to be moved in relation to the target. The movement of the image is independent of any displacement of the projection system in relation to the target.
