An apparatus for safely retaining an eye implant lens for transport and access for inspection and use in which a holding apparatus has a chamber for holding a lens. In one embodiment the chamber has aligned transparent portions and a lens can be placed in alignment with the transparent portions to enable inspection. Also, a system including the apparatus and a bottle assembly that will hold the apparatus in the bottle. A method for holding an eye implant lens in which a lens is placed in the apparatus which can then be placed in a bottle assembly.

Lens holder method

An embodiment in accordance with the present invention provides an apparatus and method for injecting a lens into a flap or pocket in the cornea. This lens or pocket preferably is created by a laser used in conventional lasik surgery. The apparatus includes a syringe or handle, a plunger extending movably through the lumen of the syringe, and a paddle. The paddle extends from the distal end of the syringe and is configured to hold the lens to be injected into the eye. The paddle also defines a fluid flow path in fluid communication with the lumen of the syringe and configured to allow saline to flow onto the paddle to lift the lens from the paddle, such that the lens can be inserted into the eye.

Lens injector apparatus and method

A method for using a laser to create a pocket in a patient's cornea is provided. The pocket is created using a femtosecond or a nanosecond laser. The laser ablates tissue within the cornea in a specific shape. The shape of the pocket can be determined by software to custom program a three-dimensional path of the laser. A variety of corneal pocket configurations or computer programmed shapes can be used accommodate various corneal lens shapes and sizes. An intracorneal lens can then be inserted into the pocket, in order to correct the patient's vision.

Method for laser cutting a corneal pocket

A method for inserting a lens into a corneal pocket or flap includes providing a lens inserter device, opening a first leaf and a second leaf of the device, positioning a slot of each one of a first and a second lens shaped portion over a post on a packaging of the lens, positioning the lens between the first leaf and the second leaf, inserting the lens into the corneal pocket, and releasing the lens from the lens inserter device.

Lens inserter apparatus and method

An apparatus for safely retaining an eye implant lens for transport and access for inspection and use in which a holding apparatus has a chamber for holding a lens. In one embodiment the chamber has a pin on which a lens can be placed and a ramp leading to the pin so that a gripping member can slide up the ramp into proper placement to grip the lens and remove it. The gripper can be configured so that after removing the lens from the holding apparatus, it can be used to implant the lens. Also, a system including the apparatus and a bottle assembly that will hold the apparatus in the bottle. A method for holding an eye implant lens in which a lens is placed in the apparatus which can then be placed in a bottle assembly.

Lens holder apparatus and system and method

An embodiment in accordance with the present invention provides an apparatus and method for inserting a lens into a flap or pocket in the cornea. The apparatus includes a handle, a plunger extending movably through the lumen of the handle, wherein the plunger includes a distal segment which extends beyond the distal end of the handle, an actuator coupled to the plunger configured to provide movement to the plunger, and a leaf extending from the distal end of the handle and configured to hold the lens to be inserted into the eye, wherein the leaf defines a slot configured to enable loading the lens onto the inserter.

An intraocular lens injection system comprising an injecting device and cartridge. The cartridge comprises a lens holding portion and an outer sleeve portion. The invention includes a method of pre-loading the injecting system, particularly the cartridge, to reduce the amount of packaging, prevent damage to the intraocular lens during packaging and shipping, allow the pre-loaded injecting cartridge to be autoclaved as a unit, and eliminate the step of loading the cartridge with the intraocular lens by the end user to prevent potential damage during this step.

Disposable intraocular lens insertion system

An intraocular and intracorneal lens includes an optical portion and a corrugated haptic portion. Corrugations of the haptic portion may be linear or arcuate, and such corrugations may be present on both anterior and posterior surfaces of the haptic portion. The intraocular lens may be deformed before or during insertion in an eye of a patient, and may be positioned in the posterior chamber of the eye such that the optical portion is spaced anteriorly from the crystalline lens of the eye. In alternative embodiments, an intraocular or intracorneal lens of the invention may be inserted in the anterior chamber, or within the cornea, of an eye of a patient. An alternative intraocular lens includes an optical portion having a peripheral optic zone and an inner non-optic zone. Methods for correcting visual deficiencies of a patient, by insertion of an intraocular or intracorneal lens of the invention in an eye of the patient, are also disclosed.

Intraocular and intracorneal refractive lenses

A method and apparatus for correcting vision, including a corneal-pocket keratome device to create a corneal pocket and a lens to be inserted and retained in the corneal pocket to effect correction. The corneal-pocket keratome includes a drive unit having cutting head elements which contact the subject eye during corneal pocket formation. The cutting head elements may be removeable and may be disposable. The cutting head elements include a corneal restraint device, which may be a positioning ring to position an eyeball with the cornea protruding through the ring; a keratome blade assembly with a corneal-pocket blade; and may also include an applanation shoe surface to restrain the cornea, in addition or instead of the positioning ring. The applanation shoe may be pivotable away from the surgical area. The corneal-pocket blade may include a guide which travels with the blade. The blade assembly oscillates laterally while extending forward into the cornea to form the pocket, and the amplitude of the lateral oscillation is preferably increased as the blade goes beyond an opening incision into the cornea. Lenses for this invention preferably include a feature to impede accidental lens movement after the lens is disposed within the corneal pocket, which may be a swelling after insertion or a circumferential irregularity. Lenses may be of Fresnel or non-Fresnel type, and may employ annular changes in the index of refraction of the lens material, as well as changes in refractive shape which may be annular or not, to effect variations in focal length for relieving presbyopia, astigmatism, and combinations of those as well as myopia and hyperopia. Drive control and vacuum for the positioning ring are provided under user command by a control unit having user inputs.

Intracorneal lens placement method and apparatus

A deformable intraocular lens injecting apparatus including a transverse hinged lens cartridge for allowing the lens cartridge to be opened and closed for loading the deformable intraocular lens into the lens cartridge. A preferred embodiment includes a lens cartridge including a lens holding portion connected to a nozzle portion. In this preferred embodiment, the lens holding portion includes a movable wall portion with a protrusion for folding the deformable intraocular lens into a lens delivery passageway of the lens cartridge when closing the movable wall portion.

A deformable intraocular lens implanting device for implanting a deformable intraocular lens into the eye. The device includes a deformable nozzle tip portion having a wall portion defining a nozzle tip lens delivery passageway portion, the wall portion having a deformable transverse cross-sectional profile which deforms as an intraocular lens is advanced through the nozzle tip lens delivery passageway portion.

A keratome for performing corneal resectioning which functions without a need for a surface against which to press the subject cornea during surgery, facilitating access for the surgeon and reducing or eliminating mechanical part rubbing near the surgical site. The keratome has a positioning ring to position an eye with the cornea protruding through and restrained by the ring. A blade is preferably suspended from its ends by a blade support which is driven by a drive mechanism, and a guide is disposed substantially parallel to the blade. The blade describes a forward path above and at a controlled distance from the positioning ring while also oscillating laterally. A guide may be disposed parallel to the blade edge to control resectioning thickness. Drive control and vacuum for the positioning ring are provided under user command by a control unit having user inputs.
