The present disclosure provides an access node for transferring and/or assigning network passwords. The access node includes a first interface for sending and receiving communication of a first type to and from a first node operating in a wireless local area network (WLAN). The access node also includes a second interface for sending and receiving communication of a second type to and from a second node in a mobile network, such as a GSM/GPRS network. The access node further includes a short messaging service (SMS) module for sending and receiving. SMS messages to the second node carrying an OTP allocated. The access node also includes a mechanism to verify a precondition before the OTP is sent to the second node.

The present disclosure provides an access node for transferring and/or assigning network passwords. A method, system and apparatus in a wireless communications system selectively utilizes the Internet for the transmission of information. In a first embodiment, a subscriber can activate an Internet call forwarding (ICF) supplementary service (SS). From the subscriber's Mobile Station, an ICF message is transmitted to and stored in the subscriber's Home Location Register (HLR). The ICF message may optionally designate an Internet protocol (IP) address destination and may optionally activate other features pursuant to the data type received. For example, the ICF message may request that only fax/data calls or only calls that would otherwise incur a long distance charge be forwarded over/through the Internet. In operation, an incoming call to a Gateway Mobile Services Switching Center (GMSC) causes the GMSC to interrogate the called party's HLR. The information in the incoming call is then forwarded either over/through the Internet or over the PSTN based on the features activated by the ICF message. In another embodiment, conventional telecommunication signaling commands such as the Initial Address Message may be transmitted to the target telecommunications node over the Internet.

The present invention provides a system, method and apparatus for providing multiple quality of service classes to subscribers in a network by determining a subscriber's quality of service information by using a database containing quality of service information for each subscriber that has subscribed to one of the multiple quality of service classes, and storing the subscriber's quality of service information in a visitor location register where the subscriber is currently registered.

Systems and methods for dynamically optimizing the fidelity of a speech signal received from a wireless telephony device and transmitted through a packet-switched network. In an exemplary embodiment, at least one Quality of Speech (QoS) transmission characteristic is determined for a packet-switched network intermediate to the a first Media Gateway (MGW) and a second MGW; the fidelity of speech transmitted through the packet-switched network being a function of the QoS transmission characteristic. A speech codec is dynamically-selected as a function of the QoS transmission characteristic of the packet-switched network. The speech signal is encoded into speech data using the dynamically-selected speech codec, and transmitted through the packet-switched network from the first MGW to the second MGW. The second MGW decodes the speech data using the dynamically-selected speech codec.

A telecommunications system and method is disclosed for allowing a mobile station to determine whether or not to place a wireless call through an internet protocol (IP) based local area network (LAN) based upon broadcasted Quality of Service (QOS) information. The gatekeeper within the IP based LAN has access to the QOS information and periodically sends the QOS to the base station controller (BSC) functionality within the access node (AN) of the IP based LAN. The BSC functionality then transmits the QOS parameter on the System Information message via the base transceiver station (BTS) to the mobile stations served by the BTS. The mobile stations receive this QOS information and use this QOS information to decide upon a transport method to complete outgoing wireless calls.

A telecommunications system and method is disclosed for creating &ldquo;virtual Citizen's Band (CB) radio channel groups&rdquo; within a cellular network. In a first embodiment, the virtual channel groups are built within the Mobile Switching Center (MSC). Each mobile subscriber participant is associated with the other mobile subscriber participants in the MSC, using a transaction identifier and conference bridges. Each group can be monitored, and each individual participants communication link can be controlled independently to facilitate individual disconnection. In a second embodiment, the virtual channel groups are built directly over the air. Participating mobile subscribers within range of each other can communicate directly with one another, using the same forward and reverse traffic channels.

A broadcast message indicating the utilization level associated with Stand-alone Dedicated Control Channels (SDCCH) within a mobile telecommunications network serving a particular geographic area is transmitted over a broadcast channel. Systems and methods for providing vehicular traffic information to a mobile station (MS) through a wireless telecommunications network

A telecommunications system and method is disclosed for utilizing an Internet telephony system to perform a handover of a call between different types of systems. When a serving mobile switching center (MSC) determines that there is not another MSC belonging to the same type of wireless system to which a handover can be performed, the serving MSC sends a message to an Internet Gatekeeper via an Internet Gateway for the serving MSC, inquiring whether there are any other types of wireless systems nearby. The Internet Gatekeeper maintains a database of all existing wireless systems within the area served by the Internet Gatekeeper. The Internet Gatekeeper chooses a target MSC of another wireless system (if possible), and transmits the identity of this target MSC back to the currently serving MSC. Thereafter, the currently serving MSC performs the handover to the target MSC by routing signaling messages through the Internet Gateway and the Internet Gatekeeper to the target MSC.
