The present invention relates to single, dual and multiple channel ultraviolet radiation measurement devices for obtaining a dosage level and an intensity level of an ultraviolet radiation source directed at an irradiation target. The device includes a measurement sensor having a light pathway formed between first and second ends. An internal light guide is positioned along the light pathway adjacent the first end. An external light guide chamber is formed along the light pathway adjacent the second end and extending toward the internal light guide. A light scattering member is positioned along the light pathway. An electric charge generating unit is positioned adjacent the light pathway, an electric charge storage unit is electrically connected in parallel with the electric charge generating unit, a resistive member is selectively electrically connectable in parallel with the electric charge storage unit, and an electrometric unit is electrically connected to the electric charge storage unit.

Ultraviolet radiation intensity meter

A smoking detection device comprising a smoke sensor for generating an electrical signal in response to the detection of smoke, and an optical sensor for generating an electrical signal in response to the detection of ultraviolet radiation in a prescribed range. The smoking detection device may further comprise an alarm unit which is electrically connected to the smoke and optical sensors for generating an alarm signal in response to any one of the electrical signals generated by the smoke and optical sensors. The optical sensor is configured to sense ultraviolet radiation in a spectral range of from about 185 nanometers to about 260 nanometers, and of an intensity in a range of about 1 picowatt per square centimeter to about 1 nanowatt per square centimeter.

Low intensity flame detection system

An ultraviolet radiation dosimeter for obtaining a measurement of ultraviolet radiation from an ultraviolet radiation source. The dosimeter comprises an electric charge generating unit which is adapted to be irradiated by the ultraviolet radiation source and operable to produce an electric charge which is proportional to the amount of ultraviolet radiation to which the generating unit is exposed. Electrically connected in parallel with the generating unit is an electric charge storage unit which is operable to store the electric charge produced by the generating unit. Additionally, electrically connected in series between the generating unit and the storage unit is a directional coupler for allowing the electric charge to flow in only a prescribed direction between the generating unit and the storage unit. An electric charge limiter is electrically connected in series with the directional coupler for limiting the flow of the electric charge through the coupler, with an electrometric unit having a display being electrically connected in parallel with the storage unit. The electrometric unit is operable to convert the electric charge to a reading which corresponds to the amount of ultraviolet radiation generated by the ultraviolet radiation source, and presents the reading on the display.

Ultraviolet radiation dosimeter

A corona discharge detection device comprising an optical sensor for generating an electrical signal in response to the detection of ultraviolet radiation in a prescribed range. The detection device further comprises an alarm unit which is electrically connected to the optical sensor for generating an alarm signal in response to the electrical signal generated by the optical sensor. The detection device may further comprise a directional unit for determining the location of origin of the ultraviolet radiation. The optical sensor is configured to sense ultraviolet radiation in a spectral range of from about 185 nanometers to about 260 nanometers, and of an intensity in the range of about 1 picowatt per square centimeter to about 1 nanowatt per square centimeter.

Corona discharge detection system

A microwave powered ultraviolet and/or visible light producing system comprising a housing defining a microwave cavity having a volume Vo, an inlet and exhaust ports which communicate with the microwave cavity. Disposed within the microwave cavity and uniformly distributed therewithin are a number N of ultraviolet and/or visible light producing lamps, each of which has an inner diameter D, a length L, and a nominal power p. Communicating with the microwave cavity is a microwave magnetron generator having a microwave power P and producing microwaves having a wavelength .lambda.. Electrically connected to the generator is a power supply. The optimal operating condition for the system to maximize the ultraviolet and/or visible light output and longevity of the lamps and minimize system power consumption is governed by the relationships:

Energy efficient ultraviolet visible light source

A pulsed surface discharge apparatus for treating dielectric surfaces, such as polymers, having a pair of electrodes spaced apart adjacent to a surface to be treated, means for supplying an inert gas, or a predominantly inert gas mixture, adjacent to the surface in the region between the electrodes, an electric pulse generator providing repeated pulses of a high voltage to the electrodes sufficient to cause breakdown of the inert gas and generate a discharge across the surface to be treated, and a dielectric surface transport for moving the surface to be treated past the electrodes. The electrodes and inert gas may be enclosed within a treatment chamber having entrance and exit ports for the material to be treated, and adapted for wire, rod, tube, sheet or other forms of dielectric material. One embodiment encloses the supply of dielectric material, which material drags inert gas along with to the discharge region. Material treatment by the surface discharge improves wettability of and adhesion to the dielectric surface due to the irradiation by intense uv or other electromagnetic radiation and bombardment by electrons, ions and excited gas species in the discharge.
