An automatic adjusting device for a hydraulically and mechanically actuatable disc brake is disclosed including an adjusting member interposed between a brake piston and a mechanical actuating device. The adjusting member includes an adjusting nut connected to the brake piston by a non-self locking threaded element and includes a conical friction surface cooperating with a friction surface on a hand brake piston. A stop on an axially adjustable sleeve supports the adjusting nut and provides for adjustment of the spacing between the friction surfaces in the inactuated position.

Automatic adjusting device for a disc brake

In a spot-type disc brake, the brake caliper which embraces the edge of a brake disc as well as brake shoes supported on both sides of the brake disc and which contains an actuating device is connected to the brake support member positively by a first guide pin received in a bore of the brake support member and slidably in the direction of the axis of rotation of the brake disc. The brake caliper is movable relative to the brake support member in a circumferential direction of the brake disc while, however, there is ensured at the same time a stable alignment of the brake caliper relative to the brake disc, in that a second guide pin which is supported in a bore provided in the brake caliper is arranged in parallel to the first guide pin. The two guide pins are rigidly connected to one another by a lever. At a point remote from the guide pins, the brake caliper is retained in abutment on a tangential sliding surface by springs. The second guide pin can, however, also extend normal to and be rigidly connected to the first pin, and be received in a correspondingly oriented bore of the caliper.

Spot-type disc brake, in particular for automotive vehicles

A spot-type disc brake unit which cooperates with a brake disc when in use to form a disc brake includes a brake shoe carrier member and at least one brake shoe carried by the carrier member for axial movement toward and away from the brake disc, and with freedom of limited circumferential displacement upon entrainment of the brake shoe by the brake disc during the braking operation. The brake shoe includes a lining having a friction surface facing toward the brake disc and a backing plate rigid with the lining and having a backing surface facing away from the brake disc, as well as disc entry and disc exit, substantially circumferentially facing, end surfaces. A braking-force bell crank lever is arranged at least at the disc exit end surface of the backing plate. The lever has a first lever arm which extends into the path of circumferential displacement of the brake shoe, and a second lever arm which extends into juxtaposition with a selected region of the backing surface to apply an additional augmenting axial force to the brake shoe at such region. The lever has a fulcrum portion which engages an engagement surface of the carrier member to constitute a pivot axis for the lever therewith during the braking operation. Upon termination of the braking operation, the lever is attracted by a spring to the backing plate to compensate for the diminishment of the thickness of the lining attributable to the wear of the latter.

the brake shoe holding device includes two support members spaced apart from each other in the direction of a secant relative to the brake disc each having grooves which are opened radially outwardly on each side of the brake disc to slidably guide an associated end of an associated brake shoe. Each of the grooves are formed to cooperate with an associated end of an associated brake shoe so that frictional force ocurring at the brake shoes, at least in the presence of increased brake-applying force, is transmitted to both support members.
