A stereotactic system for positioning a device relative to a spine includes a first frame with an attached first pedicle screw, a second frame with an attached second pedicle screw, and a platform for mounting the device. The lower parts of the frames are horizontally spaced apart, and attachable to the spine by the pedicle screws. The platform is attached to the upper parts of the frames and supported by the frames above the spine. The platform is slidably attached to the upper parts of the frames to adjust a longitudinal position of the platform relative to the frames. The platform is pivotally attached to the upper parts of the frame to adjust a horizontal distance between the lower parts of the frames, while maintaining a constant orientation of the platform.

Spine-mounted stereotactic systems and related methods

Apparatus and methodologies for the mitigation and prevention of venous thromboembolism-related disorders resulting from by venous blood stasis. More specifically, repeated cycles of brief bouts of intermittent electrical stimulation are repeated every several minutes to contract at least one target muscle, causing a temporary increase in venous blood flow and blood velocity in the veins in the region of the target muscle(s). The present intermittent electrical stimulation paradigm may be used to mimic physiological responses following voluntary contraction of the target muscle(s), without fatiguing the muscle(s).

Apparatus and method for prevention and mitigation of deep vein thrombosis

A flexible-base electrode array for implantation within neural tissue, method of making the electrode array and use thereof, is provided. A surrogate neural tissue, method of making same and use thereof, is further provided. The use of the present flexible-base electrode array for implantation into the surrogate neural tissue for stimulation or recording neural activity, wherein the array is biocompatible with the surrogate tissue.

An apparatus and method of using same for preventing pressure ulcers is provided. More specifically, the present apparatus and method may be used in individuals having compromised mobility and/or lack of sensation to prevent pressure ulcers by electrically stimulating pressure-loaded or compressed muscles.

Apparatus and method for electrically stimulating pressure-loaded muscles

A method is provided for treating pressure ulcers by transmitting an electrical stimulus sufficient to effect contraction of a loaded muscle, wherein the method comprises the steps of providing an electrical transmission for effecting contraction of the loaded muscle, transmitting sufficient electrical stimulation to the muscle to contract it for a predetermined short period of time, and ceasing transmission of the stimulus to the muscle for a predetermined longer period of muscle relaxation, whereby the predetermined period of relaxation is sufficient to minimize muscle fatigue and cause sustained reoxygenation.
