Processors, methods, and systems for user-level interprocessor interrupts are described. In an embodiment, a processing system includes a memory and a processing core. The memory is to store an interrupt control data structure associated with a first application being executed by the processing system. The processing core includes an instruction decoder to decode a first instruction, invoked by a second application, to send an interprocessor interrupt to the first application; and, in response to the decoded instruction, is to determine that an identifier of the interprocessor interrupt matches a notification interrupt vector associated with the first application; set, in the interrupt control data structure, a pending interrupt flag corresponding to an identifier of the interprocessor interrupt; and invoke an interrupt handler for the interprocessor interrupt identified by the interrupt control data structure.

User-level interprocessor interrupts

Examples provide an application program interface or manner of negotiating locking or pinning or unlocking or unpinning of a cache region by which an application, software, or hardware. A cache region can be part of a level-1, level-2, lower or last level cache (LLC), or translation lookaside buffer (TLB) are locked (e.g., pinned) or unlocked (e.g., unpinned). A cache lock controller can respond to a request to lock or unlock a region of cache or TLB by indicating that the request is successful or not successful. If a request is not successful, the controller can provide feedback indicating one or more aspects of the request that are not permitted. The application, software, or hardware can submit another request, a modified request, based on the feedback to attempt to lock a portion of the cache or TLB.

A system or a device can include a processor core comprising one or more hardware processors; a processor memory to cache data; a memory link interface to couple the processor core with one or more attached memory units; and a platform firmware to determine that a device is connected to the processor core across the memory link interface; determine that the device comprises an attached memory; determine a range of at least a portion of the attached memory available for the processor core; map the range of the portion of the attached memory to the processor memory; and wherein the processor core is to use the range of the portion of the attached memory and the processor memory to cache data.

Host-managed coherent device memory

Embodiments of an invention related to compacted context state management are disclosed. In one embodiment, a processor includes instruction hardware and state management logic. The instruction hardware is to receive a first save instruction and a second save instruction. The state management logic is to, in response to the first save instruction, save context state in an un-compacted format in a first save area. The state management logic is also to, in response to the second save instruction, save a compaction mask and context state in a compacted format in a second save area and set a compacted-save indicator in the second save area. The state management logic is also to, in response to a single restore instruction, determine, based on the compacted-save indicator, whether to restore context from the un-compacted format in the first save area or from the compacted format in the second save area.

Embodiments of an apparatus comprising a decoder to decode an instruction having fields for an opcode and a destination operand and execution circuitry to execute the decoded instruction to perform a save of processor state components to an area located at a destination memory address specified by the destination operand, wherein a size of the area is defined by at least one indication of an execution of an instruction operating on a specified group of processor states are described.

Systems, methods, and apparatuses utilizing CPU storage with a memory reference

Examples may include techniques for persistent memory virtualization. Persistent memory maintained at one or more memory devices coupled with a host computing device may be allocated and assigned to a virtual machine (VM) hosted by the host computing device. The allocated persistent memory based on a file based virtual memory to be used by the VM. An extended page table (EPT) may be generated to map physical memory pages of the one or more memory devices to virtual logical blocks of the file based virtual memory. Elements of the VM then enumerate a presence of the assigned allocated persistent memory, create a virtual disk abstraction for the file based virtual memory and use the EPT to directly access the assigned allocated persistent memory.
