A method for viewing pathology images in a web browser is provided. The method includes obtaining a pathology image in a first format, converting the pathology image into a pyramid representation file comprising images grouped into a plurality of levels, wherein the images in the different plurality of levels correspond to portions of the pathology image at a same or different degrees of resolution, and wherein the images are in the first format, storing the pyramid representation file in the first memory, receiving a request from a user to view the pathology image at a specified resolution, loading one or more images from at least one of the plurality of levels corresponding to the specified resolution, wherein the one or more images are in the first format and wherein the one or more images are loaded into a web browser coupled with the first memory, converting the images into a second format such that the images' degrees of resolution are maintained, and storing the images in the second format in a second memory.

Methods and systems for the efficient acquisition, conversion, and display of pathology images

Systems for delivering one or more studies, where each of the one or more studies has a series of digital images associated with only one person and generated by an imaging modality, is disclosed. The systems include a syncing application that is configured to execute within a local area network and that is in data communication with imaging modalities and/or computing devices configured to display images generated by each of the imaging modalities. The systems also include a server adapted to be external to the local area network and in data communication with the syncing application and a client-side viewing application installed on one or more of the computing devices. The client-side viewing application is configured to acquire the studies, including unrendered data representative of the digital images of the series, locally render the unrendered data, and enable a user to manipulate the digital images.

Systems and methods for integrating neural network image analyses into medical image viewing applications

A method of training neural networks using digital images is disclosed. Each of the digital images is associated with an imaging modality, an anatomy of a person, a diagnosis of the person, an age of the person, a gender of the person, data indicative of contouring, an aggregated score, or a property of the anatomy of the person. In the method, a client side viewing application receives the digital images, receives a modification of one of the digital images, and transmits the modified digital image to a server. The server selects a neural network to train based on the digital image, trains the selected neural network, receives a request to apply one of the neural networks to another set of digital images, and selects a neural network to apply. The neural network is applied to the other set of digital images and generates a graphical, audio, alphanumeric text, or video result.

Methods and systems for dynamically training and applying neural network analyses to medical images

A system for electronically receiving, modifying and distributing three-dimensional medical images is disclosed. An image viewer application receives data representative of the three-dimensional image in a first state, reconstructs the data representative of the three-dimensional image in the first state to form two-dimensional image slices, displays the two-dimensional image slices, provides a user with options to modify the two-dimensional image slices, receives input from the user to visually modify the two-dimensional image slices, visually modifies the two-dimensional image slices, in response to the received input, to form visual modifications to the two-dimensional image slices, forms a data object referencing pixel data representative of the visual modifications, where the data object has public tags associated therewith, generates at least one private tag having data descriptive of the visual modifications, associates the private tag with the data object, and transmits the data object to a server configured to receive the data object from the image viewer application.

A method facilitates viewing of DICOM medical images by providing a 16-bit DICOM image on a computer readable storage medium, text-converted metadata of the DICOM image and an html-compatible conversion of the DICOM pixel data on a computer readable storage medium. Pixel data of the DICOM image is converted by dividing the 16-bit image into two 8-bit color channels stored in an image referenced by a web page using a uniform resource locator. The two 8-bit color channels are later reassembled within a portable web browser according to instructions set forth in computer readable program code associated with the web page.

System and method for viewing medical images

A system and method for enhancing digital images is described. A digital image is transformed into a series of decomposed images in frequency bands, or different resolution grids. A decomposed image is noise suppressed and contrast enhanced. Representative value of signal at each pixel is computed based on contributions to signals from pixels in a neighborhood of the pixel. Lookup tables are applied to pixel values to selectively enhance signal in a predetermined range of signal strength. Another set of lookup tables are applied to pixel values to suppress noise components contained therein. Optionally, operations are applied to decomposed images to suppress quantum noise, enhance object edges or enhance global contrast, among others. These decomposed images, after signal enhancement and noise suppression, are then recombined to result in an enhanced image.

Method and system for enhancing digital images

A method for removing shutter areas in an image, in particular an x-ray image is provided. Edges are examined in a multi-resolution image pyramid and evaluated to determine potential shutter blade candidates defining the shutter areas. Heuristic rules and/or an automatic classifier such as a Neuronal Network, are applied to distinguish true shutter blades from false positives. The rule set and the classifier are based on a set of features extracted from the potential shutter blade candidates as well as predetermined knowledge of the expected placement of the shutter, human anatomy. Up to four shutter blades are expected to be detected and based on these blades, the bright areas in the image that occur due to the shutters are removed.

System and method for shutter detection

A method and computer program are provided for segmenting a prostate from a medical image such as an ultrasound image. Each slice in a study is analysed and uses a manual initialization to obtain an initial contour, in which a user selects initial points that are automatically rendered on the image. An automatic refinement stage then snaps the contour to the prostate boundary in the image based on a pre-stored anatomical atlas and edge information obtained from the image. A manual adjustment stage may then be performed and if selected, the contour is automatically propagated to the next image slice to avoid the manual initialization. An auxiliary image slice may be referred to, which indicates how the prostate shape changes from slice to slice, e.g. by providing a perpendicular profile.

System and method for segmenting a region in a medical image

The invention relates to a method of segmenting an image of a structure stored as a set of spatially related data points representing variations in a predetermined parameter, said method comprising the steps of selecting a seed point within the structure to be segmented, assigning to each of the data points a value of connectivity indicative of the confidence that respective areas of the data points are part of the same structure as said seed point, said value of connectivity including a function of the distance of the respective point from said seed point, establishing a threshold value for said level of connectivity and selecting for display data points meeting said threshold value.

The present invention relates to a method for generating an 2-D projection directly from a 3-D volume data, the method comprising the steps of determining a viewing direction vector in a viewing frustum, determining a major axis of the direction vector, resampling the volume data in the direction of the major axis, applying a shear factorization to the resampled data; and rendering the factorized data. The method provides a singularly warped image which avoids have to patch images from multiple warp functions which, in turn, improves the quality of the final image. Finally, the image allows a scene to be rendered from within the scene itself. The invention can be applied to medical imaging and enable a surgeon to view an image such as a CT scan with perspective as well as from within the scan itself, providing the surgeon with an invaluable tool.

The present invention provides a system of extracting a visual feature from a dataset, comprising a storage means for storing said dataset; retrieval means for retrieving said dataset from said storage means; display means for displaying an image of said retrieval dataset; means for defining a block of voxels corresponding to a selected portion of said displayed dataset, said block containing said visual feature therein; means for removing from said block voxels not containing said visual feature, to generate a feature block; means for generating a mask from said feature block; and means for rendering said dataset using said mask.
