A printing device having a frame, an input holding area, and an output holding area. The frame supports a printhead and a feed roller system for feeding print medium to the printhead. The input holding area is disposed on the frame. The output holding area is disposed on the frame. The input holding area holds print medium to be fed into the feed roller system. The output holding area has a support section to receive and support print medium output from the feed roller system. The support section of the output holding area has a bypass feed slot formed therein. The bypass feed slot is substantially straight. The bypass feed slot includes a first slot portion and a second slot portion adjoining the first portion. The second slot portion has a slot width different from the first slot portion.

Output tray for printing device

An apparatus in which an altered copy of an original document is produced. An editing device associated with an electrophotographic printing machine changes the information in the original document and generates a signal indicative of the changes therein. The information is stored in an erasable read-only memory. The erasable read-only memory is inserted into the copying machine to conrol the formation of the copies so as to correspond to the edited original document.

Editing copying machine

An electrophotographic printing machine in which a variable magnification optical system is controlled so that information being reproduced from an original document fits on a copy sheet. The size of the original document is sensed. The device sensing the size of the original document has a minimum number of detectors to measure a maximum number of different size original documents. The size of the copy sheet is compared to the size of the original document and an error signal generated indicative of the difference therebetween. This error signal controls the magnification of the optical system.

A self-biasing corona discharge device, for example, a dicorotron, which is suitable for use in conditioning the residual toner on a charge retentive surface such as a photoreceptor to thereby facilitate subsequent toner removal therefrom. The foregoing device is utilized in conjunction with a self-biasing detack corona device suitable for use in reducing electrostatic attraction between the copy substrate and the photoreceptor. The self-biasing arrangement used for conditioning the residual toner enables sufficient shield current to be generated to effect the preclean (i.e. residual toner conditioning prior to cleaning) function. The biasing arrangement used in the corona device for conditioning the residual toner is also utilized in connection with the charge and transfer coronode devices thereby permitting all of the corona devices to be powered by a single secondary winding of the power source at reduced power.

Corona charging device

Control apparatus for a corona discharge device to be utilized in a xerographic reproduction machine. The control is characterized by utilizing the shield or coronode voltage to derive signals which can be used for maintaining the photoconductive surface of the machine at a predetermined voltage level. The voltage level on the shield or coronode is measured twice, once with the surface in its conducting state and with the surface in its non-conducting state. The difference between the two voltages is compared to a reference voltage to generate an output signal for controlling the voltage applied to either the shield or coronode depending upon which is being used.

Control for a corona discharge device

To improve the quality of copies made on an electrostatic reproduction machine, a post exposure predevelopment corona generating device is used to treat an electrostatic latent image on a photoreceptor. The device deposits a treating charge onto the latent image of the same polarity as the latent image, the treating charge being of a magnitude sufficient to lower the charge contrast between the background of the latent image and undesirable low density image areas, but not sufficient to detrimentally affect other areas of the latent image. The treating charge may be varied upwardly or downwardly to obtain the desired result, but as it is varied, an electrical bias applied to a developer is simultaneously varied in the same direction so that the magnitude of the bias is always a substantially constant amount above the magnitude of the charge on the background of the latent image.
