A junk basket comprises a sleeve sized to fit within a well bore. The sleeve has a bore therethrough, an internal latch at its top end for connection to a complementary retrieval tool having an external latch. A basket floor is movable axially in the bore between a first position intermediate the axial length of the sleeve, and a second position resting on a retaining shoulder at the bottom of the sleeve. In a well bore, the basket floor is supported at the first position, preferably on a retrievable bridge plug, and debris is collected in the defined volume above the floor. When the basket is lifted during retrieval, the basket floor falls to the second position, increasing the collection volume, loosening the debris and loosening the basket in the well bore for ease of retrieval. Further, a novel method of jointly deploying a junk basket and bridge plug results. The basket is connected to the plug and a setting/insertion tool passes through the basket's bore and through a port in the basket floor. Once the plug is set in the well bore the setting tool is removed. By lifting the retrieving tool with a predetermined load over string weight, the basket is sheared from the plug, a ball engages the port in the floor and the floor falls, loosening the debris and basket in the well bore.

Junk basket and method of use

A retrievable bridge plug having an internal bypass passage and external retrieving lugs, and a retrieving tool therefor. When the bypass passage is sealed, both the top and bottom openings of the bypass passage are closed, preventing debris from entering the bypass passage through either opening. A directing shroud is provided adjacent the top opening of the bypass passage, such that when the bypass passage is opened, part of any fluid flowing uphole through the bypass passage is directed over the retrieving lugs, clearing them of any debris and facilitating latching by the retrieving tool. The shroud also prevents debris from packing around the top opening of the bypass passage. A retrieving tool is also provided, which retrieving tool, through cooperation of a sleeve having a &ldquo;J&rdquo; shaped slot, and an inner latch sleeve having a straight slot, locks the retrieving tool onto the retrieving lugs.

Retrievable bridge plug and retrieving tool

An electro-hydraulic well tool actuator is provided to control fluid-actuated well tools. The actuator may include a cylindrical housing at least one hydraulic fluid flowpath within the housing, a communication link sealably connected to the housing on one end and a control panel located at the earth's surface on the other, at least one solenoid valve mounted in the housing for directing the flow of hydraulic fluid, and at least one discharge port in the housing for delivering pressurized hydraulic fluid to a hydraulically actuated downhole device. Alternate embodiments include an onboard hydraulic system, and different methods of interfacing with downhole fluid actuated devices.

Electro-hydraulic well tool actuator

A set of inflatable well packing elements are separated by a variable length of tubing and are set in a well to isolate a segment of the annulus by applying fluid under pressure through a tubing string to the well packing elements. The flow of the fluid under pressure to the inflatable packing elements is regulated by a flow control valve which automatically cuts off the fluid flow at a predetermined tubing to annulus pressure differential and opens communication between the tubing string and the isolated well zone. Fluid may thereafter be pumped into or swabbed from the isolated zone. Upon completing the zone servicing, pulling the tubing string up slightly will both equalize the pressure across the inflatable packing elements, and deflate the packing elements. Thereafter, the tubing string may be retrieved from the well or, if desired, moved to another location which can be serviced in the same manner.

Open hole straddle system

A retrievable production packer is conditioned for initial wireline installation in a well utilizing an adapter comprising an outer sleeve and an inner rod connected to a mandrel carrying the slip assembly of the packer. The packer is frangibly supported in an initial transport condition for being set by means of a wireline setting device. A flow control device, such as a blanking plug, may be seated in the packer mandrel at the very top of the packer while being lowered into position and set with a wireline setting device. Thereafter, the tubing string may be connected to the packer downhole to release the packer and retrieve it from the well.
