The present invention is a photographic element which includes a support having a first side and a second side, at least one light sensitive emulsion layer superposed on the first side of the support, a transparent magnetic layer superposed on the second side of the support. The transparent magnetic layer includes magnetic particles and a film forming binder. An outermost abrasive lubricant layer overlies the transparent magnetic layer. The outermost abrasive lubricant layer is formed from a non-aqueous coating composition of a composite wax particle, an abrasive particle and an organic solvent. The composite wax particle is composed of a wax phase having a wax having a melting point of greater than 30.degree. C. the wax being greater than 80% by weight of the wax phase and a non-crosslinked polymer phase free of chemically bonded acid groups.

Abrasive lubricant layer for photographic element

A process of forming a single color image which has improved abrasion resistance comprising: a) providing a thermal donor element comprising a heat-activatable image layer of a dye or pigment on a support, the image dye or pigment absorbing in the region of from about 300 to about 700 mn; b) providing a receiving element in superposed relationship with the thermal donor element; c) imagewise-exposing the thermal donor element by means of a laser or thermal head, thereby causing a change in the adhesion of at least a portion of the exposed areas of the heat-activatable layer to the receiving element or causing a portion of the exposed areas of the heat-activatable layer to diffuse into the receiver element; d) separating the thermal donor element from the receiver element, thus creating an image layer on either or both of the elements; e) charging either the thermal donor element or the receiver element containing the image layer to a given polarity or applying a voltage across the surface of the element which is attracted to a conductive surface behind the element; f) applying colorless, charged particles to the element containing the image layer which causes them to be electrostatically attracted to the surface of the image layer; and g) heat-fusing the particles to obtain a protective overcoat over the entire surface of the image layer.

Overcoat for thermal imaging process

The present invention is a film packet which includes a photosensitive film sheet having leading and trailing ends. A light-shielding envelope removably encloses the carrier sheet and the film sheet. The envelope has first and second exterior surfaces overlying the first and second outward-facing surfaces respectively and has first and second interior surfaces facing the first and second outward surfaces respectively. The envelope includes longitudinally extending leading and trailing end portions overlying the leading and trailing end sections respectively. The leading end portion is sealed closed, and the trailing end portion is closable by cooperative engagement with the light-locking element. The leading end portion includes first and second graspable zones. The first graspable zone overlies the tab so that, when grasped, the first zone is pressed against the tab and the second graspable zone does not overlie the tab so that, when grasped, the second zone is not pressed thereagainst. The trailing end portion has a transversely disposed movement-limiting element secured to said first exterior surface thereof wherein the envelope is removable from the carrier sheet and film sheet by longitudinal relative movement therebetween in a direction separating the trailing end portion from the light-locking element. The first and second interior surfaces of the envelope have a coating thereon comprising a first polymer and a second polymer at a first polymer to second polymer weight ratio of from 1:1 to 10:1.

The present invention is an imaged photographic element having a protective overcoat thereon. The protective overcoat is formed by providing a photographic element having at least one silver halide light-sensitive emulsion layer; and applying an aqueous coating comprising polymer particles having an average size of 0.1 to 50 microns at a weight percent of 5 to 50 percent, a soft polymer latex binder at a weight percent of 1 to 3 percent, over the at least one silver halide light-sensitive emulsion layer. The silver halide light sensitive emulsion layer is developed to provide an imaged photographic element. The hydrophobic polymer particles is fused to form a protective overcoat.

A clear protective overcoat is provided to an image formed in a silver halide photographic element. The overcoat is formed by electrostatically applying a uniform distribution of clear toner to an imaged photographic element and then fusing the toner to form an overcoat. The toner can be applied only in a limited area of the element.

Protective overcoats for silver halide photographic elements

A photographic element comprising a support, a light-sensitive layer on one side of the support, and on the other side of the support, at least one backing layer and a protective outermost lubricating layer, the protective layer comprising a solid wax and a non-ionic fluorinated surfactant in an amount less than the surfactant's solubility in the wax, said protective layer being coated from a mixture of an aromatic solvent and at least one lower alkyl alcohol.

Photographic element

A photographic element is disclosed which comprises (a) a support, (b) a radiation-sensitive silver halide emulsion layer on one side of the support, and (c) a protective backing on the opposite side of the support which provides scratch and abrasion resistance and process surviving lubricity. The protective backing is comprised of one or more layers, the outermost of which comprises a film-forming hydrophobic lubricious polyimide-siloxane block copolymer. In preferred embodiments of the invention, the backing further comprises a solid particle dye dispersion of a filter dye which is readily soluble or decolorizable in alkali aqueous photographic processing solutions at pH of 8 or above dispersed in an alkaline aqueous insoluble, organic solvent soluble film forming binder, and an electrically conductive agent, such that the backing provides halation protection during exposure as well as process-surviving antistatic protection. The present invention provides photographic elements with a backing which provides photographic process-surviving lubricity. In preferred embodiments, the backing includes a filter dye layer which provides effective antihalation protection, where the filter dyes are decolorized or removed upon processing, preferably over a protected antistatic layer. The invention employs hydrophobic, inherently lubricious, polymeric binders that may be used as film-backing binders for anti-halation dyes, provide an adequate level of scratch and abrasion resistance, an appropriate level of slip or friction, and is coatable from relatively safe organic solvents.

Photographic elements having a process-surviving polysiloxane block

A photographic element is disclosed which comprises (a) a support, (b) a radiation-sensitive silver halide emulsion layer on one side of the support, and (c) a protective backing on the opposite side of the support which provides scratch and abrasion resistance and process surviving lubricity. The protective backing is comprised of one or more layers, the outermost of which comprises a film-forming hydrophobic lubricious polyester-siloxane block copolymer and a hydrophobic co-binder which does not contain polysiloxane block units. In preferred embodiments of the invention, the backing further comprises a solid particle dye dispersion of a filter dye which is readily soluble or decolorizable in alkali aqueous photographic processing solutions at pH of 8 or above dispersed in an alkaline aqueous insoluble, organic solvent soluble film forming binder, and an electrically conductive agent, such that the backing provides halation protection during exposure as well as process-surviving antistatic protection. The present invention provides photographic elements with a backing which provides photographic process-surviving lubricity. In preferred embodiments, the backing includes a filter dye layer which provides effective antihalation protection, where the filter dyes are decolorized or removed upon processing, preferably over a protected antistatic layer.
