Examples include translation of a source m-node identifier (ID) to a target m-node ID, the source m-node ID identifying a source m-node representing a file system object in a source file system, and the source m-node ID including a source replication set ID, a source m-node container ID, and at least one local ID. In examples, a source m-node container ID is replaced with a target m-node container ID in the target m-node ID.

Translation of source m-node identifier to target m-node identifier

Examples include, in response to fulfillment of a tiering policy, dividing, by a cloud provider engine of a computing device, data blocks of a filesystem object into data chunks. Some examples comprise generating, by the cloud provider engine, a current manifest file in a local memory and causing the cloud storage system to generate a current pseudo folder in the cloud storage system corresponding to a particular epoch of the filesystem object. Some other examples comprise tiering, by the cloud provider engine, the data chunks and the current manifest file to the current pseudo folder, the current manifest including pointers to the data chunks corresponding to the filesystem object at the particular epoch.

A storage system includes a distributed file system. An attribute of a particular entity in the file system relates to a snapshot. In response to an operation in the storage system, it is determined whether the snapshot attribute is to be propagated to another entity of the file system.

Propagating a snapshot attribute in a distributed file system

According to an example, PM controller based atomicity assurance may include receiving data that is related to an application for storage in a PM. PM controller based atomicity assurance may further include receiving an indication of an atomic transaction that is related to the data, and receiving an indication to generate a CP that is related to the atomic transaction. The CP may be generated in a PM staging area. A determination may be made as to whether the CP in the PM staging area is closed or open. In response to a determination that the CP in the PM staging area is closed, content related to the CP may be propagated to the PM.

Persistent memory controller based atomicity assurance

A technique includes receiving a request to restore a state of a file system. The request defines a rollback period, which extends from a restoration time that is specified by the request to a time at which the request was made. The technique includes reconstructing a state of the file system in response to a query using a preserved snapshot of the file system. The reconstruction including reconstructing the state at an arbitrary query time based at least in part on a dynamically inheritable attribute of an entity stored on the file system and the rollback period.

An exemplary embodiment of the present invention provides a method of processing a file system transaction in a distributed file system. The method includes receiving a transaction request from a computer, wherein the transaction request includes file data to be stored and a first segment identifier that determines a destination of the file data. The method also includes generating a first distributed journal record corresponding to the file data. The method also includes generating a first file operation request based, at least in part, on the transaction request. The method also includes sending the first file operation request to a first segment server corresponding to the first segment identifier, wherein the first segment server generates a second distributed journal record corresponding to the file data on a memory device associated with the first segment server.

Method and system for journaling data updates in a distributed file system

A system includes storage configured to store file system entities, including directories and files, residing in segments of a distributed, segmented single file system, file servers configured to implement the single file system with separate ones of the file servers controlling metadata of separate ones of the segments, and a controller configured to control storage of files in the file system such that for a master file stored in a first segment, a first replica of the master file will be stored in a second segment that is physically separate from the first segment, the controller being further configured to control storage of directories in the file system such that a single directory will include identifiers for the master file and the first replica.

File replication in a distributed segmented file system

An apparatus in a first device of an association of devices includes a processor configured to: communicate with a storage device storing segments of a distributed, segmented single first file system including file system entities residing in segments and including at least portions of one of files and directories, the association of devices including file servers that control metadata of separate segments of the single first file system, including metadata of file system entities residing in the segments; communicate with a backup module configured to backup file system data of a second file system different from a distributed, segmented file system; analyze data in the single first file system to determine data associated with different segments of the single first file system; and present data from the single first file system to the backup module in accordance with what data belong to which segment of the single first file system.
