A hydrogen compressor includes an inlet valve, an outlet valve, a storage container in fluid communication with the inlet valve and the outlet valve, a heat transfer device, and storage media arranged inside the storage container. The storage media is made from an initial composition that includes a first element and a second element. The second element has at least one substitution element that is identified based on at least one of the ground state volume per atom of the elemental solid, the covalent radius, the Pauling electronegativity, and the number of valence electrons of the substitution element.

Hydrogen compression and storage systems

A method for obtaining solid-state metal borohydrides without toxic precursors and expensive solvents includes dry mixing of metal hydrides and metal polyhydro-closo-borate starting materials. High pressure and heating is also used in the method. These materials can be used for hydrogen storage, general reducing agents, organic synthesis, wastewater treatment, and paper pulp bleaching.

Solid state synthesis of metal borohydrides

A method and a system is provided for obtaining solid-state hydrogen storage and release in materials with at least theoretical loaded hydrogen densities of 11 wt % or greater that can deliver hydrogen and be recharged at moderate temperatures enabling incorporation into hydrogen storage systems suitable for transportation applications. These materials comprise ternary boride materials comprising certain light transition metals and alkaline or alkaline earth metals, and ideally have no or very little phase separation. A process for valorization of lignin includes the steps of mixing lignin; a MOF catalyst metalated with a metal atom selected from the group consisting of Fe, Mn, Co, Cu, or Ni, and combinations thereof; an oxidizing agent; and an aqueous solvent. The product of this process, a charged polyacid-containing species derived from lignin, may be included in a dispersion with a dispersible particulate material, and an aqueous dispersing medium.

Conversion of lignin into a water-soluble polyacid using a MOF catalyst

Nanostructured metal amides and nitrides are incorporated into nanoporous templates, such as carbon, using liquid ammonia as a solvent/reagent. This leads to unexpected improvements in metal amide nanoconfined hydrogen storage materials. The resulting nanostructured materials may reversibly absorb and desorb large capacities of hydrogen under conditions that are much milder compared to what has been achieved with bulk materials. In addition, the nanoconfined materials may reduce the amounts of ammonia released upon dehydriding, which may make the released hydrogen gas purer and may limit the capacity loss. In addition, nanoconfinement may simplify the reaction mechanism, eliminating undesired metal imide intermediates and promote hydrogen cycling under mild conditions. The liquid ammonia method also allows the simultaneous introduction of catalytic additives along with the parent hydrogen storage material.

Nanostructured metal amides and nitrides for hydrogen storage

The present invention relates to methods of employing a metal-organic framework (MOF) as a catalyst for cleaving chemical bonds. In particular instances, the MOF results in selective bond cleavage that results in hydrogenolyzis. Furthermore, the MOF catalyst can be reused in multiple cycles. Such MOF-based catalysts can be useful, e.g., to convert biomass components.
