A water recovery system including a first fluid stream inlet providing for the flow of a first fluid stream, such as a humidified inlet gas, into the system and a second fluid stream inlet providing for the flow of a second fluid stream, such as a gas having a temperature greater than the humidified inlet gas, into the system. At least one contactor is in fluid communication with the first fluid stream inlet and the second fluid stream inlet. The at least one contactor defining therein a first fluidically-isolated, sorbent-integrated, fluid domain for flow of the first fluid stream and water adsorption, a second fluidically-isolated fluid domain for flow of the second fluid stream wherein the second fluidically-isolated fluid domain is in thermal communication with the first fluidically-isolated, sorbent-integrated, fluid domain and a third fluidically-isolated fluid domain for capture of a condensate and recycling of latent heat of condensation back to the first fluidically-isolated, sorbent-integrated, fluid domain.

Water recovery system including integrated contactor with thermally-enhanced recovery

A method includes directing a refrigerant fluid mixture and a flow of natural gas through a first heat exchanger for exchanging heat between a natural gas flow path and a first refrigerant flow path. The method also includes expanding the flow of natural gas exiting from the first heat exchanger via a first throttle valve. Further, the method also includes directing a generated cold natural gas vapor and a slurry having a liquefied natural gas and solidified carbon dioxide through a filter sub-assembly. Moreover, the method also includes separating the solidified carbon dioxide by the filter sub-assembly to form a purified liquefied natural gas. Finally, the method includes directing a pulse of a cleaning fluid having at least one of methane and carbon dioxide through the filter sub-assembly to remove the solidified carbon dioxide therefrom and storing the purified liquefied natural gas in a storage tank assembly.

Method for natural gas liquefaction and filtration of solidified carbon dioxide

A system and method for generating an improved syngas are disclosed. The system includes a mixing unit, a heat exchanger, an engine and a water gas shift (WGS) reactor. The mixing unit is configured to mix a hydrocarbon fuel, an oxidant, and water to generate a fuel mixture. The heat exchanger is coupled to the mixing unit and configured to receive the fuel mixture and generate a heated fuel mixture. The engine is coupled to the heat exchanger and configured to receive the heated fuel mixture and generate an exhaust syngas. The WGS reactor is coupled to the engine and configured to receive the exhaust syngas and provide a water gas shift reaction of the hydrogen, carbon monoxide and the water vapor in the exhaust syngas to provide a reduction in a level of carbon monoxide in the exhaust syngas and an increase in a level of hydrogen in the exhaust syngas to generate the improved syngas.

System for generating an improved H2:CO ratio in syngas and an associated method thereof

A desalinating system and method is disclosed. The desalination system comprises using a turbo freeze or fast-cooling process to freeze saline water droplets and separate salt crystals from pure water crystals, wherein said system provides for simultaneous injection of saline water droplets and a chilled refrigerant into a freezing chamber at a slip velocity sufficient to reduce the size of the saline water droplets to an optimal diameter.

The subject matter disclosed herein relates to a liquefaction system. Specifically, the present disclosure relates to systems and methods for condensing a pressurized gaseous working fluid, such as natural gas, using at least one turboexpander in combination with other cooling devices and techniques. In one embodiment, a turboexpander may be used in combination with a heat exchanger using vapor compression refrigeration to condense natural gas.

A system and method for generating an exhaust syngas are disclosed. The system includes a mixing unit, a heat exchanger, and an engine. The mixing unit is configured to mix a hydrocarbon fuel, an oxidant, and water to generate a fuel mixture. The heat exchanger is coupled to the mixing unit and is configured to receive the fuel mixture from the mixing unit, evaporate the water by heating the fuel mixture using a hot fluid, and generate a heated fuel mixture. The engine is coupled to the heat exchanger and is configured to receive the heated fuel mixture from the heat exchanger and generate an exhaust syngas by partially combusting the heated fuel mixture.

A carbon to liquids system comprising: a source of syngas; a first reactor coupled in flow communication with said syngas source and configured to receive a flow of syngas therein, said first reactor comprising a polymeric material, wherein said first reactor reacts the syngas and a catalyst in a Fischer-Tropsch reaction that produces a product comprising steam, wherein the polymeric material is configured to permit the permeation of the steam therethrough; and a recycle path coupled in flow communication with said first reactor, wherein said recycle path is configured to channel the permeated steam to a vessel positioned upstream from said first reactor. A method of operating a carbon to liquids system includes receiving a flow of syngas and reacting the syngas and a catalyst to produce a product including steam. The method also includes recycling the permeated steam to a vessel positioned upstream from the reactor.

Carbon to liquids system and method of operation

A coal gasifier is retrofitted to achieve multiple advantages such as reduced oxygen consumption, reduced CO2 and NOx emissions, better H:C ratio, better carbon conversion etc. This is achieved by dividing the coal into at least two zones and modifying the gasifier and operating it as described. The coal is injected into a first zone, configured to devolatilize a substantial portion of the injected coal to produce coal char and volatiles. The operation is tuned to substantially consume the oxidant injected in the first zone. A low-calorific-value, high oxidant feedstock is injected in second zone of the gasifier. The devolatilization of the low-calorific-value, high oxidant content feedstock provides the oxygen containing compounds which gasify at least a portion of the coal char generated in the first zone.

A method of operating a carbon to liquids system is provided. The method includes receiving a flow of syngas and reacting, in a reactor, the syngas and a catalyst in a Fischer-Tropsch reaction to produce a product including steam, wherein the reactor includes a polymeric material that is configured to permit the permeation of the steam therethrough. The method also includes recycling the permeated steam to a vessel positioned upstream from the reactor.

A plasma-assisted waste gasification system and process for converting waste stream reaction residues into a clean synthesis gas (syngas) is disclosed. The feedstock is fed into a reactor roughly one-third from the bottom through the use of a feed mechanism. The reactor has three zones; a bottom zone where melting occurs, a middle zone where gasification takes place, and a top zone with integrated plasma torches to control the temperature and polish the syngas. The residence times in the three zones are selected to optimize the syngas composition and melted products. The syngas leaves the reactor and is partially quenched with relatively cooler synthesis gas. The partially quenched syngas is further cooled to recover heat for steam generation and/or preheating the waste stream to the reactor. The cold syngas is then processed to remove pollutants. The clean synthesis gas is combusted in power generation equipment to generate electricity, or converted to other fuels by chemical processes.

Plasma-assisted waste gasification system

A process for the plasma-assisted treatment of coal in which coal is directly converted to heavy hydrocarbons. The first step in the process is direct conversion of coal to aliphatic hydrocarbons under plasma conditions in the presence of light hydrocarbons, such as natural gas. In the second process step, the aliphatic hydrocarbons are upgraded to a liquid fuel. The energy for the process can be provided by radio frequency energy, such as microwave energy, that is powered by a renewable energy source. The process has flexibility to adjust aromatic content in the fuel to match fuel specification requirements.

Plasma-assisted treatment of coal

A system and method are provided for boosting overall performance of a fuel cell while simultaneously separating a nearly pure stream of COfor sequestration or for use in generating electrical power to further increase overall efficiency of the process. The system and method employ a heat exchanger system configured to generate a stream of fuel that is returned to the inlet of the fuel cell anode with a higher molar concentration of carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrogen (H) fuel than was initially present in the fuel cell anode outlet.

A method for producing a fuel composition from a feedstock which may contain biomass and municipal solid waste is described. The method includes the step of pyrolyzing the feedstock in the presence of a transition metal, using microwave energy, so that the level of oxygen in at least one product of the pyrolysis is reduced. An integrated process is also described, in which the transition metal can be regenerated. Moreover, pyrolysis products such as bio-oils can be upgraded to liquid fuel compositions. Related systems for producing fuel compositions are also described.
