A method and apparatus for allocation of back-end (BE) logic resources between NVM sets. When a controller detects that an NVM set is in an idle state, it deallocates the BE logic from the originally assigned NVM set and provides the BE logic resource to another NVM set. An NVM set controller matrix maps interconnections between the BE logic resource and the new NVM set to enable use of the BE logic resource and the new NVM set. When a new command arrives for the originally assigned NVM set, the BE logic resources is re-allocated to the originally assigned NVM set.

Methods and apparatus for managing power in data storage devices implementing non-volatile memory (NVM) sets are provided. One such apparatus includes a NVM including a first NVM set and a second NVM set, first backend logic circuitry configured to manage data storage in the first NVM set, second backend logic circuitry configured to manage data storage in the second NVM set, and power management circuitry configured to initialize the first and second backend logic circuitry to a high power state, detect an idle state for the first NVM set, store operational settings for the first backend logic circuitry, and transition the first backend logic circuitry to a low power state that consumes less power than the high power state. When a new command arrives, the first backend logic circuitry can be returned to the high power state to handle the command.

Power management for data storage devices implementing non-volatile memory (NVM) sets

Systems and methods for determining locality of an incoming command relative to previously identified write or read streams is disclosed. NVM Express (NVMe) implements a paired submission queue and completion queue mechanism, with host software on the host device placing commands into multiple submission queues. The memory device fetches the commands from the multiple submission queues, which results in the incoming commands being interspersed. In order to determine whether the incoming commands should be assigned to previously identified read or write streams, the locality of the incoming commands relative to the previously identified read or write streams is analyzed. One example of locality is proximity in address space. In response to determining locality, the incoming commands are assigned to the various streams.

System and method for locality detection to identify read or write streams in a memory device

Systems and methods for monitoring a regulated voltage output for current consumption are disclosed. An analog component senses the current at the regulated voltage output and converts the sensed current into a digital representation, which is indicative of the sensed current. A digital component inputs and analyzes the digital representation to determine whether to generate an interrupt. The interrupt is indicative to an electronic device, which is using the regulated voltage, to modify its operation. For example, the digital component may analyze the digital representation by counting a number of system clock cycles during a part of the digital representation. The counted number of clock cycles may be compared with a threshold, which may be predetermined or dynamically selected, to determine whether to generate an interrupt. Thus, the sensed current from the regulated voltage output may be used to determine whether to modify operation of the electronic device.
