An exhaust treatment apparatus for treating exhaust gas flowing through an exhaust line housing from an upstream location to a downstream location in a downstream direction, the exhaust treatment apparatus comprising a ceramic filter body having a honeycomb structure of a plurality of intersecting porous ceramic walls extending from a first end to a second end in an axial direction and defining a plurality of channels extending in the axial direction, wherein a first transverse face at the first end comprises metal oxide particles affixed to a portion of the intersecting walls. The metal oxide particles may be affixed to the upstream end, or the downstream end, or both the upstream and downstream ends. Preferably the metal oxide particles provide reinforcement to the underlying portion of the walls, and of the honeycomb structure itself.

Reinforced exhaust treatment article, exhaust line, and methods

A composite structure, exhaust aftertreatment system, and method of manufacture. The composite structure includes a body that includes an array of intersecting walls that form a plurality of channels extending in an axial direction through the body such that adjacent channels are located on opposite sides of each wall. A composite material of the body includes a first phase of a porous glass or ceramic containing material. The first phase includes an internal interconnected porosity. A second phase of an electrically conductive material is included that is a continuous, three-dimensional, interconnected, electrically conductive phase at least partially filling the internal interconnected porosity of the first phase, which creates an electrical path through at least some of the walls in a lateral direction perpendicular to the axial direction between the opposite sides of the walls.

A method of concentrating a lithium-containing aqueous solution, the method comprising: (i) providing a water-permeable structure having an inner surface and outer surface, wherein at least said outer surface is coated with a water-permeable hydrophilic polymer having a thermal stability of at least 100° C.; and (ii) flowing a lithium-containing aqueous feed solution having an initial concentration of lithium over said inner surface while said outer surface is in contact with an aqueous draw solution containing a higher overall ion concentration than said lithium-containing aqueous feed solution, to result in forward osmosis of water from said lithium-containing aqueous feed solution to said aqueous draw solution, and wherein said forward osmosis results in a lithium-containing aqueous product solution having an increased concentration of lithium relative to the initial concentration of lithium in the lithium-containing aqueous feed solution.

Forward osmosis composite membranes for concentration of lithium containing solutions

A system and method for the recovery and separation of rare earth elements (REEs) are provided. The system and method include the supported membrane solvent extraction of REEs and the separation of light and heavy REEs that have been recovered from scrap permanent magnets and other electronic waste. In supported membrane solvent extraction, an organic phase consisting of an extractant and an organic solvent is immobilized in the pores of hollow fibers. An aqueous feed solution and a strip solution flow along the shell side and lumen side of the hollow fibers, respectively. The extractant functions as a carrier to selectively transport certain rare earth metal ions from the feed side to the strip side. The rare earth metals are concurrently back extracted in the strip solution, allowing processing to proceed continuously without equilibrium limitations.
